Update: (16/05/2009)

Having made a lifestyle choice, at almost 18 stone and being unable to run to the loo(!!), I applied for the FLM 2009. I got in and ran for SPARKS having lost over 4 and a half stone! Was a fantastic day, but my right calf went after 16 miles and I limped and hobbled the last 10 and over the finish line.

So I must carry on running to keep the weight off and better my PB's. Ballot entered for 2010, so fingers crossed. - got place with Children with Leukaemia!!

Still not built for speed, but am improving and keeping going. Many thanks for the support of my wonderful wife Debs, and my two little angels, Derry and Ellie.

PB's

Half Marathon - Bath March 2009 - 2:17:30

Marathon - London April 2009 - 5:33:15

Motivation

.....or more importantly lack of it.

Since London I have struggled to get running and have yet to complete a planned run. Just can't get motivated. Have the Acorns Half in Malvern in two weeks, so really am getting quite worried.

Have been doing the run/walk type thing, but know i can do the planned runs standing on my head, just can't seem to want to. Have had a little stiffness in the calf/achilles area, but have been hiding behind it a bit.

Help needed please!!!

Come on Gazz, get a grip, get the shoes on and get out there. The birds are singing, the sky is blue, hopefully the sun is shining, but what the hell, the temperature is much improved, get your sorry ass into gear and get out there!
Am I being too hard?

Could go sergeant major and tell you not to be so bloody lazy and get out and run man! Or arm round the shoulder and advise you need to run so it doesn't hurt when you run that half! Either way looks like a couple of training runs needed before too long. Weather is great for running at the moment, so much easier than in January/February.

Gazz I know it's tough to get motivated after the climax of London but remember you've made a lifestyle choice! Think of all the positive things you've acheived and how much better you feel as a result. Don't throw this away!
I don't think you need to do that much prep for Malvern as you've probably still got the fitness from all your months of training. Choose a nice easy 10 miler with a bit of scenery towards the end of the week with just a couple of short runs midweek and you'll be fine!

I think that's normal, after all FLM was what you were training for, so once that was done, you were bound to dip in motivation. I'm in a similar position, I only did my first post-FLM run on Sunday. I guess you need push yourself a bit to make sure you're ready for the Half. Once this is done your motivation will no longer be link to FLM.

i have to agree with the rest Gaz. so not much i can say that has not been said already. look to the weekend and get some short run in and a long run in around 10miles if poss. then just take it easy until the race mini tapper.
all the best

Gaz, I felt / feel exactly the same after London and have only run once. Without a big challenge looming the motivation to go out and do it has faded.

I found the solution - 4 months to a 4hr marathon and the Dublin Marathon in October.

Now I have to get back out there and the target is a 4hr Marathon! Fancy tagging along?

i felt like that all the way through training and just had to ignore the voice which said no and make myself get out there. if you do that once and go on a short run you'll be so happy you have.
