Update: (16/05/2009)

Having made a lifestyle choice, at almost 18 stone and being unable to run to the loo(!!), I applied for the FLM 2009. I got in and ran for SPARKS having lost over 4 and a half stone! Was a fantastic day, but my right calf went after 16 miles and I limped and hobbled the last 10 and over the finish line.

So I must carry on running to keep the weight off and better my PB's. Ballot entered for 2010, so fingers crossed. - got place with Children with Leukaemia!!

Still not built for speed, but am improving and keeping going. Many thanks for the support of my wonderful wife Debs, and my two little angels, Derry and Ellie.

PB's

Half Marathon - Bath March 2009 - 2:17:30

Marathon - London April 2009 - 5:33:15

Return of the Gazz.....

I can't believe I haven't blogged since 4th November!! Apologies to my bloggy pals for not posting, but I have been trying to keep up to date via my iphone, albeit sporadically.

There's alot of new names on here, so I will resolve to keep up to date with postings from now, I promise, no honest.......anyway the soap opera that is our West Country antipodean is always a giggle (bless her!).

Well the mojo is definitely back, good job with only 15-16 weeks left eh. Decided before New Year not to run over 10 miles on an lsr, in an effort to strengthen the legs. Seemed to work with a maximum 9.75 a couple of weeks before Xmas. Over indulged on the festivities and suffered as a result. Was thinking of going to find some sun, but the thought of Green peace following my every move was a little off putting.

Joined the Black Pear Joggers for a Monday and Thursday group running, which is fab, as they have a marathon guru called Stuart who takes an lsr on a Sunday, then an efforts session on a Monday, so it should help me reach my goal of a sub 5. Satan (sorry Santa) kindly delivered a Garmin 405 (great gadget) which apparently comes with instructions, but as I'm a proper bloke I won't read them!

The only think I have noticed is how slow I've got. Whilst I see you others have speeded up, I seemed to be trudging. I know this will get better and my recovery from runs is great, so I'm hoping Stuart will speed me up somewhat.

Went out on Sunday early (7.30) before the traffic, so I could run on the roads and was it ever cold. Hips were aching from the cold towards the end and did 11.35 miles in 2:07, so painfully slow, but no ill effects all afternoon or Monday. Running club on Monday went around the football pitches and golf course of Perdiswell in the snow. Tough workout but worthwhile.

Was due to do a 6 today, but the white stuff has returned (snow not charlie!!!) so postponed. Hopefully running club will be on tomorrow.

Anyway enough of my ramblings, speak soon.

Gazz. x

Ooh - I get a special mention :-)
Welcome back. Was wondering where you'd gone to. I have only just cottoned into the fact you have landed a charity place for VLM, after thinking you weren't doing it this year.
Brill.
You're doing Bath Half too aren't you? Will have to try and meet up if you are. Assuming you want to talk to me :-)
Sounds like you are on track with your training and the running club will help. Keep it up!!

Well done on that long run and enjoy your club running. It's my dream to do a LSR with anyone - I get so bored on my own.

I would not say it was too slow considerung lack of quality training we are all missing. Welcome back.

Dont worry about pace. Get the miles in and build up slowly and you'll soon notice the difference. Congratulations on getting a 405 and joining a running club - both excellent for your running!

Good to see you back Gazz and running well, sure the natural pace will come back after a few more miles post xmas excess.

Say hello to my friend Bethan if you are running with the Black Pear runners... they are a great running club. I would join if I wasn't so hopelessly disorganised.. they would have got to Claines before I caught up! Have fun x
