In 2002 I took part in my first London marathon. The reasoning behind this was that 'if I don't do it now then I never will'. I managed to run/jog/fast walk the whole way round the course and finished in 4 hours 13 minutes. I swore as i crossed the line that that was it and my time as a long distance runner was over! Subsequently I've now run 3 London marathons and countless half/ten miles/10ks.

I enjoy the long runs in the rubbish weather, people in their cars going past, looking at you as if you're mad, I enjoy the feeling of being at the start line of a race and the satisfaction of finishing, although I don't enjoy the throwing up that has occurred on several finishes.

So it is with all the memories of long runs and happy finish lines that I apply every year to take part in the London marathon. Three marathons now in total and I'm still to it in under 4 hours (4 hrs 3mins is the best).

2010 will give me the opportunity (last time I promise Mrs R) of going sub 4 hrs.

Please follow my blog and see how I get on with juggling work, a young family and training in my preparations for London 2010.

This year I'll be running to raise money for the Rowans Hospice.

The Rowans Hospice exists to enhance the quality of life for those suffering from a life-limiting illness. It supports patients and carers in the belief that each person is entitled to dignity and choice with the best provision of care. For 7 weeks the staff and volunteers at the Hospice looked after my wifes Aunty, making her as comfortable as possible and also ensuring that all family and friends that visited were looked after, even on christmas day. If you can spare a couple of pounds then please go to the link below:

Frustration

Unlike January, which was one of the best months I've had in terms of milage and enjoying my running, February has been a frustrating month to say the least.

Coming off of my bike was annoying and the bruising my knee, hip and elbow didn't help matters. I decided to do the sensible thinig and have a few days rest. After five days without running I was itching to get out over the weekend to do a couple of runs but that never happened.

The Rhodes' house has been hit by a particularly nasty stomach virus that has wiped all three of us out. It's not so bad when you're a grown up and you feel poorly, you just get on with, eat a bit more carefully and sleep if you can. When you're only 20 months old though and have a stomach bug it isn't much fun (for you or your parents!). Lisa and I have tried to take it in turns looking after each other and Lola but we've all felt pretty lousy. The last thing on my mind on Sunday was running.

We're hoping that we're all on the mend now and depending on the weather and how much I eat today I might try and get out for 4 or 5 miles this evening. I've got Brighton half marathon in just over ten days and am away this weekend so not much training going to get done before that. I'm not too worried, I know I can get round and still be ok but it is frustrating when the training has been going so well. My half marathon pb attempt may have to wait until March (Fleet).

Still, I'd rather take a week/ten days out now than later on in the training plan. I guess I've just got to try and pick up where I left off and not try to do to many miles to make up for not running.

I hope everyone else's training is going well

Regards

Lee

Wow , you have had so much on your plate, but being sensible is the right thing. The miles will start building again, hope you feel 100% soon.
