A touch of motivation...

Week 6 of Mr H's plan complete - 30 miles in total this being a step-back week. Next week looks ferocious though.

Yesterday I attended the Kidney Research UK marathon afternoon in London and it was a truly inspiring and humbling experience. For many reasons this charity is important to me but to listen to the guy who took up running to raise funds for the charity because his wife was on her second, yes second, kidney transplant, was so touching and impressive. And the awe-inspiring Kidney Specialist doctor who has run 118 marathons to date, for the charity!!!!! She was wonderful and motivating and really made one feel anything is possible. And anything is.

So, I am applying via Kidney Research UK to run New York for them in November and I may well run another one too. However, I need to run 16 miles next Saturday first...Oh and I suppose I better start thinking about fundraising, not to mention sourcing the purple tutu which I plan to wear to match the purple charity top...I was thinking I might dye my hair purple too but remembering the rain of the 2008 marathon I think I might just end up looking a prat if it was wet. A purple prat. A bit like a raisin, or a prune...

Have a happy running week.

Hxx

  • simonedumergue 'Sounded like a wonderful day and probably the perfect dose of inspiration as we enter the tough part of the training: serious stuff, but still with ages to go! Love the idea of a marathon running prune :-)' added 31st Jan 2010

  • squa25 'sounds like a very motivational day. And being all purple sounds great. You could be one of the ribena berries! I love the idea of running the NY marathon but I need to get through VLM before I can start thinking about anything else. One of my silly colleagues once said to me "you might not like it (the marathon)". I told him to shut up - he wasn't being very helpful when he was supposed to be providing me with motivation to run. He was just being jovial... but still, he's right.' added 31st Jan 2010

  • Suziewee 'Well done on completing another week. I missed two runs this week because of my foot, and I really want to be able to do this weeks long run so will only bike and try a run on Thurs if no pain. Hope you find the tutu, I wonder if I would be brave enough to dress up. I am running for a parenting charity, so maybe a nappy? No maybe not!!' added 31st Jan 2010

  • lou21 'Purple Sprouting!? Wonderful progress my friend... that is serious mileage! I have been living is a little secure bubble until I looked at next weeks training plan... I have now deduced that 'Francis', the nice trainer for Breakthrough Breast Cancer is actually a sadist! I have closed my eyes to it until Tuesday morning... then I will take a peek through half opened eyes, and see if I really fancy it! It appears that she has stuck a long run in the middle of the week.... oh heck! Anyway... I must think about what I am going to wear too. I need to find some very real looking artificial sweet peas to pin somewhere about my person. And I might need a tutu.... ho hum :0)' added 31st Jan 2010

  • Johnf 'I think the purple thing is the answer to some sponsorship, there must be a couple of companies who would sponsor an all purple runner. Sorry I'm not helping am I? Good week and good luck keeping up with Hal.' added 1st Feb 2010

  • jach222 'What about purple hair braids... although wouldnt recommend beads on the end or you might get facial injuries! I am catching up after being AWOL... I had forgotten how fab blogs are... I'm back with a new blog in general running because I am doing the trailwalker - well I was banned from running by so many people an the osteo recommended 'Walking' - apparently 100km in 30hrs was NOT what she meant!! So nice to read about your lovely running... you could sell running :-)' added 5th Feb 2010
