Compression tights, tutus & 16 miles...
End of week 7 of Hal's torturous marathon training plan - 40 miles in total this week - 16 of those this morning....And actually the 16 miler wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. Still hurt though but the endoriphins are now whipping their way around my bod making me feel I can do it all again anytime soon. Not.
I wore my compression tights for the first time and maybe there is actually something in them - well, yes, my little legs, but you know what I mean. My average pace was faster than usual too, I completed the sometimes muddy off-road and sometimes country lane 16 miler in 2hrs 52 mins or therabouts - I had expected it to take me over 3 hours at least given how slow my pace had become.
Maybe it was the compression tights. Maybe it was because the sun was shining. Maybe it was because the old man cycled the route with me forcing me to run faster. Maybe it was because I took a Sports Drink with me for the first time (Taut Endurance for those interested - only one I'll touch...) Or maybe it's because the training is finally paying off and I am getting stronger....Who knows. But I'm happy. 18 miles next week.
But I am still not stick-thin! Mother Nature (who was obviously a man) decided that once us females reach our fifties we should get fatter around the belly to protect our organs or some such bollocks - oestrogen levels shift and apparently we can gain 10lb plus during the menopause. Well, I'm not having any of it thank you very much. Mother Nature can go stick it where the sun don't shine. And I've lost 7lb since Christmas, so there! But boy it's a struggle!
Oh and here's the tutu - not very flattering, but hey, it's for charidddddeeeeeeee innit?

Happy running everyone!
Hxx

simonedumergue 'Loving the outfit ;-) Good running - sounds like you are coming along great guns. Feels good to have knocked off 16 miles doesn't it, but your weekly mileage is pretty up there (I had a 31 mile week - well will do, when I get back from my five miler that I am about to do...) Enjoy the rest of your weekend!' added 6th Feb 2010

lou21 'Oh I LOVE the wings! Marvellous, and the tights and tutu :0) and well done on what sounds like a really relaxed and chilled 16 miles. What a good idea to get Colin pedalling alongside you! My long run mileage seems to be way behind yours... my longest run is 15 miles in February... I am starting to champ at the bit which is slightly concerning! Enjoy the rest of the weekend xx' added 6th Feb 2010

greenc 'Love the outfit. 16 miles, fantastic and oh I so need those endorphins - they are very addictive. You seem to be raking up those miles - you go girl. My running has taken a nose dive - but for the best possible reasons - got a new friend. He black and white, about 12 months old from the local rehoming centre, he's called Toby and I'm in lllllllooooooooovvvvvvvvveeeeeeee. As exciting as bringing home a new baby!!!! Crossed with a labrador and a collie but most definitely the lab temprement. My boys and I wore down Paul until he could stand it no-longer. Feels like the missing piece in the jigsaw has been replaced. You keep that running up, I'm quite envious of everyone training, especially now the nights are getting lighter and the promise of spring is everywhere - well I've seen quite a few snowdrops! terry 'Are those stripey things the compression tights? I thought compression tights were for varicose veins!!!! Con on Hari admit it- thats what they are for! Its okay to be the same as the rest of us. I need a compression body at the moment- never mind tights...........and how come youre so bloody far ahead of the rest or us. Trying for a PB me thinks?' added 6th Feb 2010
