Eddie Izzard for Prime Minister

What an inspiration that man is! And it goes to show  just how much mental grit is involved in all of this marathon running. I watched a recording of Eddie's final stint last night followed by the Sport Relief 1,000 mile cycle challenge and that got me longing to get my bike out again and do another cycle ride. Wouldn't like to cycle at night though...

Moving on. Week 13 training completed - 40 mile week (should have been 50 but couldn't run 10 miles yesterday due to other commitments). Second 20 miler done and dusted in 3.33hrs which is 27 minutes quicker than my 2007 and 2008 time for that training. Now I try very hard not to get too excited if I find myself going faster cos I figure this running the marathon malarky is more about endurance than speed (unless you're elite, then I suppose it's rather important!) but I was very pleased to discover I have finally speeded up a little bit. It didn't make it any easier though, still bloody hurt!

However, that doesn't mean I'll manage a sub 5 hour marathon cos there's all the stopping and queing for wees en-route which from past experience I know takes at least 15 minutes a wee...Then there's the hobknobbing with celebrities and waving at the crowds, not to mention the photoshoots and general posing that has to be done...But we'll see...Laughing

Came across this yesterday: www.sumorun.com - yep, a sumo run...in Battersea Park 19th June...

Happy running!

  • Firefly123 'Well done on a very good week - you are so good following your training plan and that 20 miles was done in a very good time. Actually, you've made me a bit relieved, as I really ought to do a 10 miler on Tuesday, but I can't because I'm having my hair cut! ' added 20th Mar 2010

  • gunes 'I found watching Eddie amazing!!! what a guy and what an achievement! Well done on your 20 mile in an excellent time, and your second one at that! I agree with you about at least 15 minutes a wee, with all the queueing at the marathon lol, I couldn't believe how many people needed to go,even after the first mile !!! ' added 20th Mar 2010

  • simonedumergue 'Fantastic running! Bet that feels just great :-) I totally agree with you about Eddie - it has given me a real boost having watched him and his sheer determination. Felt sad for him when he missed his target by 30 seconds for his last marathon though! I was a bit naughty and did a nature stop on route at London last year - lo and behold there is dense foliage on the route! Revolting I know but the queues were so long for the portaloos!' added 20th Mar 2010

  • Nick 'Yeah, I'd vote for Eddie as PM. Well done on your own exploits - I'm sure that sub five hour marathon is attainable. I mean - do you have to stop for a wee on the way round? Couldn't you just do a Paula?' added 20th Mar 2010

  • Suziewee 'I was beginning to worry about you, I still have Hal's Intermediate II schedule in my diary and think of you whenever I see what I could have been doing!! Well done for getting your second 20 miler done in a good time. I did my second today as well (I am sort of mixing up the I and II schedule). I totally agree about Eddie, he is just soooo inspiring. Maybe we should run another 20 tomorrow in his honour - maybe not! ' added 20th Mar 2010

  • kizzi10000 'You just need to be at the back like me in 2007 - no water = dehydration = no wee stops. Sorted. Get your bike out and join me for London to Bournemouth :)' added 20th Mar 2010

  • Shaun 'You've sped up massively from this time last year based on that run then - if you can run through the bladder barrier you'll break 5 hours!' added 21st Mar 2010

  • crooxi 'Could you not go into a pub (I believe there are one or two en route!), buy a pineapple juice or something, donate it to someone if you don't feel able to drink it yourself, and use pub toilet (bound to be at least a bit more civilized than a portaloo.) Alternatively........... just find a handy bush or wall - the men do! Solve this problem, and I'm sure you're on for 4:30, never mind 5 hours!' added 21st Mar 2010
