Still no running

My right knee is still niggling a bit, but thankfully seems to be slowly on the mend. I decided a trip to the Docs was needed on Friday just to be sure I hadn't seriously damaged anything. Once she heard I'd hurt it running the marathon, she quizzed me for about 20 minutes all about it!!! She eventually had a look at the knee and thought it was cartilege trouble. She told me to rest it, but she would refer me to the sports injury clinic just to be sure. I'm going to give it another couple of days, and will try for 2/3 miles about Wednesday. I really can't wait to get back out again.
I have now finished my celebrating and I'm feeling a tad delicate today. I don't think I can cope with hangovers anymore!! It was the last match of the season for Larne FC yesterday, and we won 2-1. But in a total registration fiasco - the IFA have docked us 16 points and fined us £8000 for playing a player without international clearance. That means that we will be relegated. Our board are appealing the decision and are then going to the High Court if this fails. We are all gutted as the team fought so hard all season to get enough points to stay in the Irish Premier League. We are a small club and a fine of £8000 could put us out of business.
I hope everyone has now fully recovered from last Sunday. I am so determined to do it again next year, it was quite simply the most amazing experience ever.

Nick 'Most people have a few lingering aches and pains from the marathon and usually they clear up in a week or two. I've just had a look at your photos at Marathonphoto and it looks like you're twisting that right knee with every stride. Is that your natural running style or are you running that way because of the injury?' added 29th Apr 2007

Lori 'Hope everything's soon alright with the knee Heather, my own left knee aches a bit when I wake up in the morning, am going out in a couple of hours for my first run since Sunday just to see how it feels. Bad news about the football club, hope you win the appeal and hope you continue to relish the great time you had last week, it was lovely seeing you again at the start.' added 29th Apr 2007

Graydon 'Bad news about the football. I've followed Larne FC as my Irish team, ever since I met a girl from there on a skiing trip to Austria with school 20 years ago. Good luck with your recovery' added 29th Apr 2007

Graydon 'Re the comment on my blog Torremolinos is a great half. Don't bother with the "official tours" run by Running Crazy though. Just register online - it's completely free to enter, but if you go with Running Crazy they'll charge you £25 for "a guaranteed place". I've got accommodation over there, so all I had to pay for is the flight. The race itself starts and finishes in the centre of Torremolinos, near the train station so it's dead easy to find. It's a circular route, so no worries about getting lost after the finish. There's a very short uphill from the start, then you drop down to the coast so there's about 3k's of downhill, then around 8k along the coast which is completely flat. I actually went through 10k inside my 10k pb. You then climb all the way up to around 17k, which is a bit of a nightmare if you're not used to hills, before dropping back down into the town centre again. Very well marshalled, good t-shirt and goody bag (especially good considering it's all for free entry), results are printed out immediately as your race number is barcoded, so you get your time print out before you've even got to the end of the finishing funnel. And there's a huge contingent of Brits so even if you don't speak the language, there's always somebody that you can talk to en-route. I'll definitely be back next year.' added 29th Apr 2007

Dim 'Hope your knee sorts itself out soon. I think you're wise getting it checked out. Always worth giving the medics a look (and also cheking your running style out at these places that offer the running gait analysis). Bad news about Larne. These smaller clubs do have these difficulties (Wrexham is no stranger to them). I certainly feel fully recovered now and agree about it being the best experience ever. Not just the day itself, which was indeed fantastic, but also meeting everyone at the Expo. It was certianly a 'good news' weekend.' added 29th Apr 2007

Leen 'Just catching up on your blog Heather. Of course have to say congratulations first of all!!! Good to hear the knee is on the mend (which hopefully means it was nothing serious). I'd forgotten how bad hangovers are too - was a bit rough on Sat morning!!' added 30th Apr 2007

Pete 'Heather - regarding your comment, I think the whole post FLM, post party, feeling is weird!! Nothing to focus on anymore - need to do something about that! - but I have to agree that the whole FLM experience has been absolutely brilliant! Next year? - well I'm not sure yet, but I wouldn't rule it out!! ;)' added 1st May 2007
