Second place trophy!

OK, now I had better admit that it was only 700m cross country and there were only about 20 women in the event and it was our local park race but hey, it was a race and my first time ever on a runners' podium! The pride, the emotion, what can I say?

The race in photos:

Not getting a good start (not taking enough notice when the gun went off!)... I'm wearing the pink top back in about 6th place...

She works her way through the field  for a strong finish...(!) That's N1S beside me trying to get his mother to shift her a...

And the trophy - sub campeón!

It was so much fun - I've said it before, it's one of the things they do so well here. It's a free race in the park across the road from us (where I've run so many miles) and there are races for 3 year olds up to adults. There are medals and trophies and t-shirts and drinks. It's a great party atmosphere too - the Spanish really know how to have a good time. The only annoying thing is that during the presentations, as soon as their own children have received their prizes, they all leave and so for the later presentations there's hardly anyone there!

It's been a good week running-wise - I ran on Sunday at the race, Monday and Wednesday at the track, and Tuesday on my own in the park - in the sun and in shorts for the first time since about last November! I have missed all three Taekwondo classes this week because last weekend we had an attempted robbery on our 'trastero' which is like an underground storage room that we have in the building so I had to sort that out on Monday morning and then on Wednesday my younger son was off school sick and today (Friday) is a national holiday because it's Father's Day. It's the saint's day for San José (aka Joseph) so no class today either.

I hope you all have a very good week. I want to say special congratulations to Tina and Skye in the Kilomathon, to Matt in his phenomenal ultra and to Bo for still getting out to run despite undergoing chemo and for inspiring me to appreciate every day that 'Life is Good'!

  • Way_Too_Slow 'Life certainly sounds good for you at the moment. A second place trophy - brilliant, well done. And even if there were only 20 runners you still beat 18 of them!! I've never been on a podium. I'm not at all jealous of you! Much!! ;0) We'll be looking for you to get 1st place next time! You've set the standard for yourself!' added 19th Mar 2010

  • crooxi 'Wow, look at you! Do you get to keep the trophy, or is it re-awarded every year? I won my age category once (Biel HM last year,) but only the overall winners got the podium treatment. (Just as well, actually - my time was so rubbish, it never occurred to me I might have won - I only found out when I got home and switched my computer on! It would have been so disappointing to have missed it!) Very dynamic picture of you running!' added 22nd Mar 2010
