the vest emerges from the closet....

Dec0720114:27 p.m.

Taking this opportunity to update my blog now that I've returned to blogland. At work but hardly had a lunchbreak today so having a breather whilst students are struggling through a mock paper Wink

I've worked out that my marathon schedule is to start on 19th December but I have been maintaining some weekly mileage so am in a good position to up the ante a bit.

Runs so far this week: Monday - 4.7 loop to work and 3.1 miles home. Weather = freezing cold

Tues-  6.1 mile loop to work : Weather freezing..3. 1 miles home Weather = freezing and drizzling

Today: 6.1 miles loop to work: Weather- 1 degree less than freezing but still very cold. Will be running the shorter 3.1 loop home again at 5.30.

Yesterday I dug through my wardrobe for some nice high tech warm apparel.  I found an extremely unsexy damart thermal vest ( given to me a few years ago by my mum!). Not a running vest I hasten to add but a 'proper' vest. And so I stuck it on under my two running tops and boy did it do the trick Laughing.  Cheap and cheerful Wink

So currently I am 3 layer Jenny with thick gloves, a buff and warm hat.

And still in shorts and bare legs Undecided.

Cross training also resumed on the weekend with a hot sweaty lung busting interval session on the gym bike.  Tomorrow and Friday I won't be running but intend to go to the gym before work for a couple more cycling sessions

And then more running on the weekend. Will aim for a 12 miler on Sunday probably. Of course because I've mentioned that I'll be starting my marathon schedule soon, the snow is bound to come. Like it did last yearTongue out

Tomorrow evening will be a nice pig-out at a Christmas Meal with colleagues and then Friday evening a trip up to Royal College of Music for my daughter's concert.

Stewing here over the fact that I've still got loads of references to write for the students university applications. It would help if the lovely students actually developed a sense of urgency about the looming UCAS deadline Tongue out.

Have a good evening one and all. Don't diss the thermal vest. Maybe some of you are secret long johns wearers...... Undecided

  • Hat 'Ha ha! A vest plus 2 more layers, a buff and hat but STILL in shorts??!!? As always your current running and plans for training sound solid - you will get that sub 4, I know you will...Enjoy your daughter's concert - what a lovely thing to be able to do, it must be a very special experience - do you blub? I bet I would. Right, enough sentiment - glad you're blogging again!' added 7th Dec 2011

  • walsh31 'Long tights out for me too. Last night was out in 2 layers, jacket and gloves was toasty everywhere except my face, thinking about getting a balaclava not sure how that would go down with the locals though! Nice to have you back blogging Jenny, enjoy the concert x.' added 7th Dec 2011

  • tinabee 'Yay! You are back (says she who hasn't blogged since Oct). I must admit that I ditched the shorter shorts a couple of weeks ago for full length leggings. And I bought some lambswool longjohns last weekend to go under my cycling leggings. My legs (quads and glutes especially) really suffer in the cold weather.' added 7th Dec 2011

  • Petecw29 'I'm still in shorts too Jenny and only just going into long sleeved tops - but only in the evening at lunch it's short sleeves! Good luck with your training and the sub 4 - I'm pacing someone from the club for a sub 4 at Manchester Marathon next April.' added 7th Dec 2011

  • crooxi 'On reading of your multiple layers, I breathed a sigh of relief, thinking 'Ah, the woman's finally come to her senses'........... and then I read the bit about the shorts! shiver shiver........... Swiss Army underwear for me - it's the best! (And lest you be having a horrible vision of khaki y-fronts: no, it's proper sports-type unisex stuff.)' added 7th Dec 2011

  • SeanG 'Still in shorts too. Temperatures haven't been too bad this year, but there always seems to be a very very cold wind blowing. Not too bad once you get warmed up.....its just getting warmed up.' added 8th Dec 2011

  • Johnf 'Jenny good to see you back on here and still knocking out some schedule. I have always bowed to the power of vest and long johns in the very coldest weather, perhaps not to run in but when you might need to stand around a bit. Hope the concert goes well.' added 8th Dec 2011
