One down, one to follow

So Sunday was the Wissey Half Marathon near Downham Market in Norfolk. First time for me but met up with a fellow blogger PeterB who runs for the organising club. We had a chat and short warm up run before the race and walked up to the start area together. Peter warned me about the hill from 8 miles to 9.
Hooter and off we go, Peter aiming for a different time from me so on our separate paces. Soon hit a fairly steady pace and pretty much stuck to it all the way, 7.49 average to finish in 1.43.15, average heart rate of 137bpm. Small field of 191 finishers and I came 98.
Reasonably pleased with that though perhaps the slowest half I have run for a time on what was not a difficult course. (Note previous blogs warning of my declining times
) The hill, one of the Alps in Norfolk, turned out to be a long slow incline, but Peter that is only ever going to be called a hill in Norfolk or in the Fens area. The course was generally very flat but lots of long straight country road, you would turn a corner at a junction and see the road just go on and on into the distance.
Met Peter after the race, the momento for which was a bottle of beer! Then headed off to one of my daughters who lives fairly close to the area for lunch. When I showed her my Garmin times etc. she saw the calories burnt and said "Dad you need to eat some food". So I did.
So 3 weeks now till the Ipswich Half, time for a couple of weeks of effort to make sure Shaun doesn't finish it the day before I do!
