The danger of sat-nav in the country
Jan3020128:31 p.m.
A quick report in, all is fine and well though have still not heard anything from the hospital, just over a month now. Maintaining the mileage generally but still a bit of caution, so no real pace work.
Ran a 12 miler on Sunday all about 8.30 pace, cold day and my first run of the winter with my jacket on plus gloves. Still shorts though so it's not really cold. I ran out of the town towards the country lanes I use which climb out of Brett Vale where Hadleigh is situated. Plenty of hills and rolling country lanes, many of them single track.
As I ran out past Hadleigh Rugby Club there were lots of young lads and parents starting to gather for a rugby tournament and as I continued running the over reliance by people on sat-navs became apparent. Most of the lanes I use you only normally see farm vehicles and people that actually live along them, but Sunday morning I have never seen so much traffic as parents, with young rugby playing sons in the cars, following sat-navs set to quickest by mileage routes to the rugby club. I am not sure who was more surprised, me at the traffic or them as they try to negotiate muddy little lanes really only suitable if you are taking your sheep to a different field. Good to see such a big gathering of youngsters out though, when I ran back past it an hour or so later the pitches were covered with rugby players.
Whilst I'm talking about cars there must also have been a sports car meeting somewhere, never seen so many in the area. Now as you are running on a narrow country lane towards a sports car your mind initially thinks great its not a Range Rover, till you realise they are on the way to a show and certainly won't be putting a wheel towards the muddy sides of the roads.
Hope all the training plans are going well.

Dungey 'good to hear you are putting in the mileage John. No news is definitely good news from the hospital. Know what you mean on Sat Navs, seen alot of that round my way. Country lanes suddenly filled with cars, usually looking for Longleat!' added 30th Jan 2012

crooxi 'Shorts?!!! - one of these hardy types, are you?! Sat navs are simple minded things - I remember A's taking us a very 'rural' route to an event last year...... and trying to take us back the same way. We ignored it; was it my imagination, or did the voice sound rather peeved and reproachful as it subsequently tried to 'correct' us?' added 30th Jan 2012
