It all started a few years back when myself and a friend decided it would be a good thing to do ! I entered via the ballot and she got a golden bond place through a charity, needless to say that I didn't get a place but as I had already done a vast amount of the training decided to go ahead and run Edinborough instead. Someone COULD have pointed out to me at the time just how many hills this place has and the fact that the course would be going up every single one of them, without seemingly having the 'down' side of any !!!

Anyway, I have entered the ballot ever since although the actual running bit has peetered off, and finally got a place last year, no more fleeces and jackets for me ! After all that I decided to defer my place and so the very 1st VLM will be my official return to this running malarky Laughing

I have decided that my main running partner will be the dog, 3yr Dobe with pins of steel who'll be able to spur me on through the bad times. I have even decided to start Cani x with him, (running with your dog attached to you via a belt via which they effectively pull you ) His Kit (harness / lines etc) arrived today so I think I am officially out of reasons not to finally start my VLM preps. Time to dig out the trainers, dust off the running vests and firmly (but slowly, dog allowing) put running shoe clad foot to tarmac / grass and towpath dirt Surprised

Nicky, this ones for you x

fingers crossed..

everything is looking good - sshhhhh :-) So felt fine after Friday's little trot around, had Sat off and hit the tow path on Sunday for my LSR, felt good, OH was there to meet me near the end and I swapped the dog for a bottle of lucazade liquid energy - I definately go the better deal ha ha. So ran to my 'finish line' stretched and wandered back the short distance to where the car was waiting.

It was a good run, felt strong, could've carried on even and more importantly my shins were quite - yahoooo :-) So after a nice shower we popped off to go and buy some nice shiny new shoes as my treat ! soooo bouncy and lovely and white and comfy and... well, you get the picture :-)

Monday finally plucked up the courage for my first tempo runs now that the shins seem to be coping, need to increase the pace - the plan called for a 30m jog, 5m walk, 10m run and 10m jog. I substituted the last two with a 20m of pick a marker run to it as fast as possible and then recover 30secs, run to next marker etc -this worked really well. Felt good and strong although stupidly forgot to put the knee brace - it has been fine for ages !, so could feel it starting to complain for the last 15m.

Still, all in all really pleased, shins still feel good this morning, the knee's still a bit sore but tiger balm is helping. Straight 45m planned for later, fingers crossed the weather holds ! Hope you are all winning !

So glad your shins are on the mend! Hope they stay that way and glad your LSR went well. Good work, hope this weeks training goes well.

Sounds like a good tempo session. I'm glad the shin is holding up :-)

That's sounding better now. I think we need a picture of you (and/or the dog?!) instead of that question mark!
