First week

Feb1420085:12 p.m.

First week outside. Took my courage in both hands to join the regulars on Monday night. I had just managed 30 minutes with no walking on Saturday but I had to start with the group at some time. I turned up with the gazelle like Alison who pops out every so often for the odd ten miler!!. Only 5 of us . I just prayed I could do the distance. 4 miles was the goal. The group set off faster than my usual plod and despite lagging way behind I did manage to finish without making a complete pratt of myself. Poor Mark was trying to keep an eye on me and had to keep running back to check I was OK.  He will end up doing double the distance until I speed up or the evenings get lighter. We have a month of 4 miles 3x a week then a mile a month increase. Hey I don't have to give up alcohol until September - that's a result!!

What? Give up alcohol? I have been known - unwisely to have a jolly good session the night before a marathon... what I'm saying is - a glass is ok with a big meal - if you do abstain - well what better incentive do you have to cross the finish line for a cold pint - problem is..... you have a bit of walk to get in to bar from the finish line......!!! Good luck' added 15th Feb 2008

  • hilaryjohnson 'Hi Julie I'm joining the NYC blogging community - will set up my own blog asap. I'm an 'injury drop-out' from London (stress fracture of lower left leg) but have a place to run New York. I'm looking forward to getting back out running in a few weeks time and then being part of the NYC blog group. Hope the running continues to go well. Hilary' added 30th Mar 2008
