    Injury has struck

Well I've managed to injure my ankle.  I think it was down to the trainers.  I've rested it and I need to rest it more.  I went for some treatment yesterday and it seems a little better but can't run on it until at least Sunday, and even then only for a maximum of 10 minutes.

It really has happened at the wrong time as my training was going so well, but I've got to be patient and let it heal.

Needless to say the new trainers went back :o).

I hope that all my hard work doesn't get undone and I'll be back running round Southsea by the middle of August.

I'm just trying not to get too down about it, but it is just soooo annoying as I can't even manage a weights workout.

I hope everybody else is having more luck than me.  Take care all and have good runs.

    New Trainers

After telling Pam off for not getting new trainers, I took a long hard look at mine at the weekend and realised that they were in a right sorry state.

So having today off work I popped into my local running/sports shop and got myself fitted.  I was in there for about an hour and the chap was very good.

After telling me that my ankles haven't got a good degree of movement, my big toes were pretty rigid and noticing all the hard skin on the balls of my feet, he told me that my existing trainers weren't doing me much good on the support front.

So after trying about 4 pairs and having to try them out in the rain I plumped for a pair by Brooks with added 6mm heal lifts!  So after getting a new way to tie my laces, I walked out of the shop £80 lighter with a comment of don't run too far in them too soon.

So I took his warning on board and went out for a quick 2 miler to begin to break them in.  They felt great and managed the 2 miles in 23 min and 41 secs.  I'll call this a PB as I can't remember the last time I ran this little.

So after a couple more short runs and my usual walk to works I should be running back to my normal 7 miles in no time.

I just wish I bought them ages ago and perhaps got two pairs so could wear and break them in together.  But hindsight is a wonderful thing.  I'm just glad I didn't wait to pay day!

I hope everybody had a good weekend.  I've finally mopped up tears after Federer's loss - but as he said during his interview he will be back.  I've been lucky to see him play on numerous occasions including his first final with Nadal in 2006, and he really is a true champion!

Take care everybody and have good runs.

    A well earned day off

    Good evening everybody,

Well after a good 7.02 mile run on a very warm Tuesday evening and a tough weights workout with my personal trainer on Wednesday I don't feel too bad having a night off from the running tonight.

I spent yesterday up at Wimbledon with my mum so still felt tired this morning after yesterday's long day in the sun and putting up my umbrella on centre court!!  So after a quick text to my trainer he gave me permission not to run tonight :o).

His reply came just in time as my manager took us all out to lunch so I didn't mind munching my way through chilli nachos and a couple of G&Ts!!

It's defo back to the norm tomoz, so will do a weights workout and probs a run on the treadie as want to get back home in time for the tennis.

Hope everybody enjoyed good runs this week.  Promise I'll catch up with you all over the weekend.

Have a great weekend.  Take care.

    Another solid month of training

    Hello everybody,

Just a quick blog to say that after my lovely day of rest on Saturday it was back to the gym for a weights workout on Sunday morning and a 3.85 mile run in the evening.  Didn't push for a fast time but still managed under 37 mins so I was happy with that.

Also, just totalled up my mileage for this month.  65 miles I've run this month, so fingers crossed more will follow come tomorrow :o).

I hope everybody is enjoying the sunshine.

Take care and let's hope for good running times.

    Cloudy and Windy

Well tonight's weather was like October except it was still warm!  Really didn't want to go out tonight, but made myself as I knew I would regret it.

Had to do my 7 miler route tonight and taking the advice went a bit of a slower pace just to make sure I would make the distance.  The wind was terrible right in my face during the first couple of miles but then got a little easier.

Had to work really hard but decided not to concentrate on the times too much.  My breathing felt better (my heart wasn't quite in my mouth) so didn't want to panic myself too much.

Anyway when I did clock my time, it looked good so kept going and decided not to put too much pressure on me.  Well when I got home I'd broken the 1hr 26min so was dead chuffed.  Actual time was 1hr 25min 58min so another PB!  That's 3 in a week!

Feel ready for bed now and my legs certainly feel tired so may give the weights a miss tomoz morning :o).

Anyhows hope everybody has a good weekend.  Have great runs and take care.
