It was four years ago today

Can't believe that four years ago this weekend I ran my first marathon at the awesome New York City Marathon. It was everything I expected of my first race and so much more. First of 24 so far. One of the advantages of blogging is that you can look back and recapture some of the raw emotions and experiences along the way.

Made all the mistakes of a first timer. My first mile was sub 7 minutes on one of hardest miles on course, second was sub 6,  and spent the first 5 miles weaving in and out of people. Paid for it in last 10 miles. Got totally fixated on time in build up and allowed it to spoil my experience a bit - real tip for other first timers not to get stressed too much about time for teh first one- getting round is an achievement in itself.

Still the slowest of all my road marathons but definitely one of the best.

Running wise a relatively easier week just tipping over 30 miles with todays 16miles.Lovely run not pushing it just enjoying the pace between heavy weeks. Just under 2:08 in total.

Hope all is well in your blogging worlds

  • baf81 'Hi Keith, just wondered what training plan you would recommend, i was thinking of starting the 24 week plan frrom the VLM website, starting tomorrow, maybe some one with as much marathon experience as yourself could recommend a better one? I would appreciate your advice! ' added 6th Nov 2011
