Mum knows best?

Heads up for Brits, it's Mother's day on Sunday (as well as another 'alternative' celebratory day that I will be posting about tomorrow - and believe me, boys that are reading, you don't want to miss tomorrow's post). Anyway, back to Mother, surprisingly my normal last-minute dash to get something pink and fluffy in the post by Sunday won't be happening, as this year I am organised. Get me...
I spend little time with my ma, most of our chats are now on the phone. Now, I say chats, that's kind of misleading as chat would describe some level of conversation and generally that doesn't happen, she talks, I listen. But, never forgetting to make the agreeing "Mmms" in all the right places - otherwise, she'll come back with 'Kirstie, are you there'.
Yes, my mum's wisdom flows believe me - sometimes it's difficult to get a letter in, let alone a word in edgeways. And there is some of her advice I tend not to follow for example, "when you go away, don't drink the water, the change won't do you good - you are much better off having a cider, as I do". Now bear in mind we are not talking tropical locations where the water maybe verging on the dodgy, she means any travelling away from home at all, and when you live in Cornwall, that's anywhere that falls outside mere 10-mile radius from home. So sorry Mum if you are reading, I can't adhere to that pearl of wisdom, I won't be swapping my S.Pellegrino for Scrumpy.
However, that said I never change her, and there are two bits of resounding advice from Mum that continue to ring in my head.
- 1. You should always have good underwear, don't scrimp
- 2. Hold on to the good people in your life - they can be hard to come by
So, I want to know what's the most resounding piece of advice that your mother gave you? It can be profound, or maybe like my Scrumpy one that just makes you nod and say, "okay mum, will do".
