Will it be a boy or a girl?

Mar0920101:45 p.m.

And no I am not pregnant, but the fact practically everyone in my circle of friends is at the moment as well as a few celebs, Danni Minogue and Denise Van Outen to name just a couple, it seems I can't move for bumps, this news story caught my eye.

Apparently recent research suggests what you chose to eat in your early stages of pregnancy, can strongly determine the sex of your child. And it seems its fat for boys and healthy good stuff for girlies. Ha...I could have put money on it, us girls are under the cosh to eat well even before we leave the womb.

And we are talking the super early stages of pregnancy, like just hours after conception. So, if you conceive after a drunken night, followed by a filthy fry in the morning, you are more likely to give birth to a bouncing boy.

Now this does seem to be a bit of a contradiction, on the back of recent news that actually expectant mothers are eating too much. Yup, mums to be, apparently you only need to be eating an extra 200 calories (that's less than a chunky Kit Kat) in the last three months of pregnancy. Now I am not entirely sure those stats stack up. And to be honest the 'eating for two' part of pregnancy seems to be one plus that would attract me.

But back to the fat for a boy, and fruit for a girl, as often as these studies are, the findings have been based on research carried out on mice...I know, not sure if you can really make that much of a comparison, unless you squeak of course.

PS just a note to say thanks to those that have posted comments, I love getting your take on my blogs and I'll try to respond more to your replies - I've been a very bad girl lately.

  • Johnf 'I think its tough being a girl and having to remember all these things. I wonder why after millions of years most countries are still approximately 50/50 gender splits when chance seems to play no part in it. There are other foods with 200 calories in them, not just chocolate bars!' added 10th Mar 2010
