BQ. I've never come close to qualifying for Boston. I've run 8 marathons over the last 15 years and the closest I got was within 11 minutes 15 years ago. Fortunately, the qualifying times go up the older you get. My London '06 time was 3:27--six minutes off for 40-44 year olds. NYC '07 was 3:31. I know I can stay around 3:30 without killing myself and in two years the qualifying time increases by 10 minutes. Really, what I should do is just wait until I'm 45 and take it easy. But that would feel a little like cheating. I should try to qualify with a PR. 3:20:59. Yikes! For me, taking 10 minutes off my last marathon time will be a huge effort. I don't like running fast. I barely like running. This is going to require speed work, hills, miles--all that bad stuff. I may even have to cut back my beer consumption by 10%.
