Humiliating

Jan1120095:03 p.m.

There's no other way to describe it. It was far worse than 3-0.  ManU brushed Chelsea aside. If I weren't a UCLA football fan, I wouldn't know what it's like to be on the wrong side of a beating like that.  We didn't deserve to be on the same pitch with them.  And there were at least 50 of those plastic United fans in OUR PUB.  (By the way, American soccer fans, if you're going to fork over $100 for a ManU shirt and show up at OUR PUB, at least learn one frickin song.  How hard can it be?  You don't even know Glory, Glory Man United for Christsake!  That's it.  That's the whole song. Learn it!)  I hope we beat West Ham on the day before the FLM, otherwise I'll be in a foul mood.

6 mile recovery run.  40 miles for the week.  No quality in there whatsoever, but I should have a couple of weeks with no travel, so I can work on my speed.  I think I'm only three weeks away from the Surf City Half Marathon, and I'd like to get a good time there.   Seven 40-mile weeks out of the last eight--I'm beginning to feel like a real runner.  Just not a real fast runner.

Song of the Run:  Chinese Rocks by Johnny Thunders and Heroin by the Velvet Underground. I have 1,500 songs on my i-pod.  What are the odds that two songs explicitly about heroin come up during the same 6-mile run?  I'm no fan of the subject matter, but they are both great songs if you like gritty '70s New York punk rock.

  • Petecw29 'Well done on the recovery run Tom and the 40 mile weeks, what are you looking for in the half marathon? Not got mine until late Feb so a few more weeks build up yet. As a long time Man Utd fan from Manchester (I used to stand on the terraces as a kid watching Best, Law and Charlton and Co)your boys did not play at all yesterday and will need to turn things round sooner rather than later!
