I don't know what went wrong!

Jan0420095:29 a.m.

Long run today.  19 miles.  Only one mile more than last week.  Had plenty of sleep, a nice breakfast of oatmeal and a powerbar, a relaxing time watching Liverpool get dominated by Preston North End (but still pull out a 2-0 win like you're supposed to do, Chelsea) and the weather was fine.  All of this was just the same as last week.  Last week was a holiday week and I ran 10 on Thursday, just like this week.  Last week I started out the first five at 8:41 per, this week it was 8:37.  Last week I ran the first 12 miles at an average pace of 8:31.  This week I ran the first 12 at an 8:34 average.  And then the wheels fell off.  It was a wall like I have never hit before.  Last week my last five miles were at 8:08.  This week they were at 9:39!  I could probably have pushed a little harder, but I did not feel good at all.  When I stopped at traffic lights I had to hold on to the poll because I was so dizzy.  I drank more than last week, but I needed even more.  19 miles in 8:55 average.  7:55?  No, 8:55.  I have never run a timed run that slow in my life.  It's devastating because I can't find a reason for what went wrong.  Not happy.

Song of the Run: (Before the wheels fell off) Daughter by Loudon Wainwright III.  I was introduced to L. Wainwright in Nick Hornby's Songbook (31 Songs in the UK).  He's Rufus Wainwright's dad. This song was at the end of some really bad movie, but it stuck in my head for obvious reasons.

Everything she sees, She says she wants
Everything she wants, I see she gets

That's my daughter in the water, Everything she owns I bought her
Everything she owns

That's my daughter in the water, Everything she knows I taught her
Everything she knows

Everything I say, She takes to heart
Everything she takes, She takes apart

That's my daughter in the water, Every time she fell I caught her
Every time she fell

That's my daughter in the water, I lost every time I fought her
Yeah I lost every time

  • Santo76 'That song was at the end of Knocked Up - which actually turned out to be not as terrible as it sounds, and at least deserves some credit for all the great Loudon Wainwright songs on the soundtrack. I would place the blame for your slow run on Chelsea's miserable efforts ruining your mood and put it behind you. ' added 4th Jan 2009

  • VictoriaLondon 'your next run will be awesome. Sometimes your body is just not up for 19 miles, and that's it. Don't worry about it too much. And well done for finishing!' added 4th Jan 2009

  • Clouseau 'Hey fella don't beat yourself up; you just ran 19 miles didn't you? SO your pace wasn't consistent as last week, but it's not like you collapsed and couldn't finish?? You've had a busy week as well (thought you were crazy to go skiing - I'm so paranoid about injury). Think forward to next week and put it behind you.' added 4th Jan 2009

  • pelican 'Hey wish I could go 19mtr the now, and City got beat as Peterb was good enough to point out. Anyway LW111 brought a smile to may face as my old boss introduced me to his music way back in the days of tapes which I have misplaced, so going to add him to my must have one of his CD.s (would think download but not techologically minded)' added 4th Jan 2009
