Feeling Strong

I completed the Great North Run last weekend for the second time and felt so good. We finished in 2hrs 2mins. Probably the best race with regards to enjoyment and how I felt. I did not suffer any twinges or heavy legs and even later in the evening still felt quite bright. My 8yr old son ran in the mini run on Saturday so we made a right weekend of it. I can see this becoming a regular family calendar event.
Training starts next week for marathon but am being quite sensible and starting from the begining again with dropping the miles slightly. I am used to running only twice a week with stretching and gym work on two other days. However the plan that I choose to follow involves running shorter mileage on 3 consecutive days, gym work and then long runs on sunday. So I will just have to wait and see how the running goes and whether my legs will recover. we will see..... (that reminds me...must go and buy some more support stockings for rest in bed)
Last night I went for a sort of slow recovery jog, with a bit of a push now and again. The place where i usually suffer from a stress fracture on the shin was niggling a little when i got back, but managed 5.5miles exactley 10 minute miles, lovely sunny evening with happy hormones pumping!
Looks like the weather for the weekend is good so happy running in the sunshine folks....just don't get caught out with the dark creeping in quickly!
