Excel Centre Recce
Apr13200911:32 p.m.
I’m back home and have weighed myself this evening. I’m a full half stone heavier than before I went down to London! I can’t have been that bad, could I? I’ll see what the morning brings. Maybe it was all that champagne I drank?
After checking out of the hotel (and yet another over indulgent full English breakfast) I drove over to the Excel centre to see the venue for August’s London Triathlon.
On the way I was once more reminded that I won’t be running in the London Marathon in two weeks. Booo! As I drove through the Docklands there were signs everywhere warning drivers of the numerous road closures. Wow. I can’t believe that the London Marathon has come around again. A week this Sunday. I hope all your trainings have gone ok? I’ll be sure to watch the London Marathon on tv, like I normally do. I’ll be cheering you all on from the comfort of my sofa.
I did not stop at the Excel so didn’t really get much of a look. What I did see reassured me. The water in the Royal Victoria Dock actually looked ok, and was definitely not the muddy brown of the Thames. My wife got a much better look from the passenger seat, and reckoned that we would be ok.
It was strange how familiar it all looked. I guess this is because I’ve spent an age looking at photos of the race, and looking at aerial and birds eye photos of the venue. Also for the last two months my screen saver has been photos of the venue.
After the Excel I visited my family (consuming more chocolate) and drove home (yet more chocolate). All in all a very good weekend, but I’m looking forward to sinking into my own bed.
PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT TIP OF THE DAY:
A great phrase to repeat to yourself whenever you feel stressed is “I’ll handle it.” After all, haven’t you handled everything up till now?
