Getting Closer To A New Running Record

Apr08200911:46 p.m.

I got my run done today. 16 kilometres in 1 hour 45 mins 33 secs. I am so excited, as this is just 5k off a new distance record for me. I can almost taste me breaking into new running territory.

It was about 12 degrees c when I started and I made my usual mistake of dressing too hot (leggings and long sleeves, rather than shorts and T shirt). This probably helped the run to feel like a real long one. I ran the route I call my “Old Faithful.” It’s the run I did often last summer as it’s all on pavements (a rarity in the country). Running Old Faithful was how I discovered the village that I now live in. It’s not as picturesque as running the country lanes, but it’s a run.

When I got back my neighbour had just pulled up in his car. He got the joy of seeing me in my running leggings – lucky him! At least he did not comment or laugh! He told me that he’d done a 10k recently.

Do you ever get this? After a run my brain feels like it’s turned to mush and I find it hard to think. It’s like running has temporally killed off a large portion of my brain, or sent it to sleep.

If my brain had been functioning on its full power I’d have asked him which 10k he’d run and was he a runner? I hope so, although I’ve never seen him head out for a run.

While running and after I got back I suffered quite an acute ache in my foot. My right one again. This pain is another first. I’ve not felt this before. I wonder whether this, along with my ankle issue from a week or two back means that maybe it’s time to retire my trainers?

Below is a photo of me having my post run chill out in my garden, aided by my bad tempered cat Ollie. His bad breath when he hissed at me was a great distraction from the aching in my legs and the pain in my right foot.

I’ve a question for you more experienced bloggers: As my thread appears under the London Marathon 2009topic, what happens to it after this year’s London Marathon? Will my blog get deleted?
