I’ve Got To Get My Head Out Of The Clouds

Apr14200911:34 p.m.

The first think I did this morning was to weigh myself. I am only 6lb heavier than I was on Friday morning. So it’s not that bad! I didn’t put on half stone in London after all!

This evening I finished reading Rachel T’s very entertaining review of the Marathon des Sables and I want more. I want it.

My running aim for this week is to go running with the local running club on Thursday. I did some running with them last summer, and the runs were always well managed, and they were a friendly bunch. Thursday’s route is 5.5 miles and the weather looks like it should be ok.

I wrote out a “I want to feel what it is like to run when I only weigh 11 stone” weight loss plan. This involves me losing a very doable ½ a pound a week. I’ll have to make sure I also keep it off. If I do I should be 11 stone (the lowest I’ve ever weighed since I was a teenager) by the 2nd February 2010. Talk about a long term plan.

I was thinking about my long run from last week and the fact that I am almost up to the half marathon mark. As I ran it I thought “Ooo, I’m doing one fifteenth of the Marathon des Sables distance.” Granted it was without the 40 degree heat, and the massive sand dunes.

I guess it’s time to get my head out of the clouds, and my feet back down to earth, and concentrate on more immediate goals than the Marathon des Sables. My immediate goal? To successfully run the Hinckley Half Marathon on the 10th May. If I could run it in under two hours I’d be ecstatic. If I could do it in under 2 hour 26 minutes I’d be very pleased – as that would mean a new personal best.

PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT TIP OF THE DAY:

Remember it takes no more time and effort to think positively about something, than it does to think negatively about it.
