Overview

Hi,

I'm Damian and my goal is simple

TO RUN THE FLORA LONDON MARATHON FOR THE FIRST TIME!

I used to live in London and once a year used to cheer the runners on from my garden. From then I've always thought about doing the London Marathon. I'll think no more - I'll do it!

But here I am again. Setting sport goals, and probably failing to reach them.

I’ve never been a sporty person until about three years ago I started running. After about 18 months I did my first (and so far only) half marathon (the Great North Run 2006, UK), and then stopped running.

Last year, 2008, I ran for a couple of months, after sitting on the couch and watching the London Marathon on TV. I had applied to run it but never got through the ballot. After watching the race, I applied for and got a place on the Snowdonia Marathon October 2008 and started training. I looked forward to this being my first ever marathon. However, after getting my training runs up to half marathon distance, the pressures of life squeezed out my running and Snowdonia came and went, getting added to the list of races that I’d love to do, but somehow don’t think I’ll ever get to do them.

Here is my wish list of races to do. Hold onto your hats there are some beauts in here.

And the ones I am already booked on for 2009

  • The Manchester Great Run 10k - May 09. This will be my third run of this race.
  • The London Triathlon 2009 - August 09.

Some pretty mad and extreme runs in there. But these are things I'd really love to do.

A tick list for a life of running, triathlon-ing and other sporty stuff.

Ok, let’s see how many of these I can tick off before I push up the daisies (hopefully MANY years off). Are you ready to join me on my journey? And I should be in a great place to be able to eventually achieve a lot of these as I work as a life coach, and spend my days helping people to live the life of their dreams, and become Powerfully Positive People through my website http://www.liveyourdreamlifetoday.co.uk/

So let's get running!

My Poor Right Foot. Can You Visualise It?

My foot has continued to be painful today, so I’ve been using Dr David Hamilton’s visualisation techniques. When I went to the One Life Live exhibition last month, I met Dr Hamilton, and went to one of his talks. As a result I bought his book How Your Mind Can Heal Your Body (my first ever book that I own that has been signed by an author).

It is a very interesting and fascinating book, talking about the incredible power that the mind has to heal the body, and that by using visualisations we can harness that power to consciously heal, or speed up the healing of specific ailments or parts of the body.

I thoroughly recommend you read this book. If I can I’ll write a review of it, give it a runners twist and perhaps post it here so you can see what I mean about it being fascinating. Anyway, back to my foot…

When I was running yesterday, and today I used Dr DH’s techniques and it did seem that the pain lessened somewhat, so much so that I was able to finish my run, as I had been contemplating, halting my run and walking home – this would be a lifetime first for me, so I was glad the techniques seemed to work.

Today I applied for and got a place on the Hinckley Half Marathon. I’m now booked in to do my second ever half marathon. I am really excited about this. The only thing that could stand between me and running the Hinckley Half is if I book a holiday that coincides with the race!

I did loads of ironing today, and while I did it I watched the Marathon des Sables DVD that I’d recorded last year (Marathon des Sables 2008) and in all I must have watched it through about three times. The funny thing was, earlier today, I was reading a blog review of the 2008 Marathon des Sables by Desert Racer and he refers to one of his tent mates as a bloke called Cookie. Guess who’s the main character on the DVD – Cookie! A nice coincidence. I’m half way through Desert Racer's extensive review, and it’s helping me to get a bit more of a feel of what it’s like to do the Marathon des Sables.

Yippee! I’m on a mini-holiday from tomorrow. I’m travelling down to London for a long Easter weekend. I plan to just completely chill out and recharge my batteries. One of the things I am most looking forward to is drinking champagne in my favourite champagne bar (Selfridges), getting a platter of cheese and a bottle of wine in my favourite cheese and wine bar (Harrods), and to people watch in both of them.

I also plan to do loads of window shopping and at some point squeeze in two treadmill sessions. My ideal would be two 10k treadmill sessions, taking about 1 hour each.

Roll on tomorrow.
