The temp is seen as a short term fix
Another replacement with whom you needn't mix
Within a month there will be a different face
Another name, in the same place.
But what permanent employees often forget
Is that the temp has feelings and will get upset
When office staff don't invest some time
In associating with the temping kind.
You may be surprised that not all temps are the same
But have different characters and even their own names!
They can actually speak and offer conversation
Perhaps on topics besides administration.
Some do more than just make tea and take calls
And have aspirations beyond office walls
Some are more intelligent than their glazed expressions imply
And some could make you laugh if you'd let them try
So the next time you spot a temp by the printer
Don't run the other way like a Jamaican sprinter
Try asking them their name, where they are from,
You might find a friend in this temporary Pom.
For the Attention of the Temp
Just focus on the money.
