Breakthrough run

Everyone has those moments in training when they have a session where something clicks. Tonight was that night for me. I planned to do a longer run but was anxious that Id left it too late. Ive done a lot of my training in the gym on the treadmill so still had doubts about whether I had what it takes on the tarmac. I started out tentatively but several upward slopes later through Bromsgrove, I was into my stride and a quick check of my route on arrival home on the realbuzz route planner showed I had done nearly 13 miles! Was pretty surprised but knew Id done at least 10. Considering my legs were still stiff from hockey on Sunday despite having 2 days off, this was a massive confidence boost. I have to keep in mind that Silverstone is not the endgame. It will be essentially a training run in a motivated environment and LEJOG remains the ultimate goal. It was fitting that on arriving home from my longest run, on opening the postbox I was greeted by my Silverstone race number, chip and magazine. Memories came flooding back from 2007 when running took over my life for several months. Havent quite reached that level of obsession yet, but my bike will no doubt have a say about that soon.
