Tears at the expo
Apr2020071:03 p.m.
Yesterday we picked up our running numbers at the Expo and from the minute I walked through the entrance to the FLM theme tune I was an emotional wreck! Tears at that point, tears again when I wrote 'For Mike' on the Impossible Wall and tears later when I saw someone pick up their personalised shirt. He was running for Tommy's and had put 'For Baby Girl' on the back. I can see that just getting across the starting line, let alone the finishing line, is going to be a really emotional journey.
I met some lovely runners while standing in the queues - everyone is being so encouraging and supportive and that is just the runners. I understand that about 1 million people come to watch which will be incredible. While we were in South Africa we watched the Two Oceans Ultra Marathon (a very beautiful race by the way for any runners who happen to be reading this) and really enjoyed cheering on all the runners who had their names written on their running numbers. It was amazing how much you could lift somebody's spirits by shouting out something personal to them so I'm hoping that people will do the same for us on Sunday.
Had a sports massage last night and was really pleased by the state of my legs. I was a bit concerned that they were feeling heavy and lethargic but apparently this is quite normal because they are building up the glycogen stores. Sounds good to me.
Saw the weather this morning and apparently it's going to be 23 degrees, full sun and 7 mph winds from the West which is not exactly ideal marathon conditions, but having run our 20 miles in even hotter temperatures on holiday gives us a lot of confidence that we can do it again. Let's just hope the extra 6.2 miles are as good!!
So excited today - getting lots of support and encouragement from all our friends. Can't wait to be running again.....
