Picking up the Baton

Hello
Yes its me that lazy under achieving one time runner. Just brushing the dust off the Realbuzz blog.
Well as some already know i did get a place in the VLM. I was hoping and praying i'd get in and i had a feeling i would. It needed something like this to get my mojo back together.
I'm still around the same weight i have been for years but i do feel a bit fatter, im not happy with the moobs and the belly but i know i can turn it round. Even before the VLM letter i'd decided Oct was going to be the start of a sort of come back. I'd also made my mind up i was going to enter the Manchester marathon and hope a few mates would do it also.
It's not official yet but i think i'm going to run and raise money for Christie hospital. Jamie B is probably the only one amongst you who already knows what im going to disclose now. Mi Julie (wife) was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in April she had the Op in May she's had 5 treatments of Chemo with 3 to go and she's doing very well.
I have run for Christie hospital before (Windermere marathon) so i do have a feeling for the place and now we have experienced first hand the work they do.
I do what i do not because i love running, i know its good for me so i know that helps. I do things for the challenge thats where i get my satisfaction to push myself then get my reward when i sit back with a glass and reflect i can achieve what i set my mind to do. So i'd appreciate your thoughts on this, i'm thinking of doing the Manchester marathon 7 days after london, a double challenge something different to catch the eye to raise money. I'd give London my all and if i wasn't in too good shape the week after i'd run/walk. I''l decide on that soon (maybe after your comments)
Last but not least Geoff my Dad 88 years old is very poorly the hospital have said theres nothing they can treat him with he doesn't have a disease its just old age, he's tired and very uncomfortable. Ive come to realise he's not give up yet but the call will come sooner than later. Mum died in 2009 and that was dedicated to her, 2012 will be dedicated to Dad.
I hope you've enjoyed my return to blogging, i have read your blogs and commented on a few but i think i need you now more than ever xx

Johnf 'Great causes to run for Mick and should help getting you out there putting the miles in through the winter. Theres a few on here that run marathons one after the other so I'm sure there'll be information in bundles. Good luck to you, Julie and your dad.' added 4th 十月 2011

andy_bee 'Sounds like you are back with a plan and a cause. The Christie is a great place that works wonders (my mum had thyroid cancer a couple of yrs back and had MAB chemo and radio - she's fine and back to tip-top). Best wishes to your dad also. Hope to trot along in your dust at Wilmslow Half.' added 4th 十月 2011

tinabee 'If you set your mind to it I am sure you can achieve both marathons. The second will be tough for sure but if you are sensible after the first, wear compression tights, ice bath, massage and rest I am sure you will be fine for an easy second marathon 7 days later. As for the other news - I am speechless and my heart goes out to you, Julie and your dad. x' added 24th 十月 2011

Alaistair 'Hope the treatment continues to go well for your wife and the final outcome is all good...and your poor dad stays comfortable in hosptial. If you prepare well there is no reason why you couldn't run both and run them equally well. As you say its all about the challenge and the love of running,..' added 24th 十月 2011
