20 miles. 20-something degrees.

You know that you're in for a cold run when you have to thaw out the line to your hot water heater before your day even gets started.  Unfortunately, that's the way that last Saturday went and I didn't start my long run until about 2:00 in the afternoon.  I'm using the FIRST training program from Furman University (http://www.furman.edu/first/index.htm), so Saturday's run was a 20-miler.  Long and Cold.  What a great combination.

2 miles into it, the battery on my foot pod went out and I had no idea how fast I was running.  Long, Cold, and running blind.  Even better.  Deciding to make the best of it, I went ahead and ran whatever seemed comfortable at the time.  In the end, everything turned out OK and I finished about 15 seconds per mile ahead of my expected pace.

Favorite moment of the run:  Toss-up between the incredible sunset as I finished and the pair of ducks that totally wiped out as they tried to land on a frozen lake.

Song-of-the-run:  "Get Up Offa That Thing" by James Brown.  I have no idea how this got on my running playlist, but it was the kick in the rear end that I needed on a hill that was just as steep as Noelton Drive, but twice as long. (If you haven't heard people complaining about running Noelton yet, you will.  Don't believe everything you hear, though.  It's not that bad.)
