Low impact weekend

Feb05201210:45 p.m.

Left it too late to go running round the lake yesterday, did three miles round the village instead - up the hill, then down to the main road, and back up again. Had to call it a day there as it was getting dark, and was proper tipping it down. Still, three miles beats no miles, and that monster hill climb was enough to give my legs a bit of a workout.

Walked the lake route with Sue today, couple of minutes per mile faster than last time (18:30). She wasn't too impressed with the "Sergeant Major" bugging her to pick up the pace whenever we slowed down, but at the end of it was pleased with the progress we made :D Think I might wear a weighted backpack next time we go for this kind of walk, bit of extra work for me, and an easier ride for Sue, we'll see.

Totals for the week - 13.1 miles running, 11.9 miles walking. Less than last week, but pretty much as planned. Next week will see fewer miles again - probably three miles tomorrow, same again on wednesday, a bit of walking, maybe a little lifting, plenty of rest, and hopefully a 60 min 10k result in Sundays race.

  • Rob_Barber 'You're already a sub 10 minute mile pace runner aren't you? 60 min 10k will be a stroll in the park - be ambtious, sub 55 or even sub 50 finishing time should be more in line with your capabilities - go for it!' added 6th Feb 2012

  • MrDT 'I think you're a bit more confident in my abilities than me Rob... On a nice flat treadmill I've run a mile in 7:45, three miles in 26:52, and six miles in 54:23. The great orme 10k isn't quite as flat lol, and can be quite exposed to the wind. Managed a 'dry run' last weekend in 1:00:51 (calm conditions), hoping I can shave off a minute or two on race day to achieve a sub-60 result, I would be over the moon with that! Any faster would be a brucie bonus!! When I first signed up for this race my estimated finish time was 1:15:00, very happy with how things have improved :) Just have to cross my fingers for calm conditions and no snow or ice on Sunday now! Thanks for the vote of confidence though :D' added 6th Feb 2012
