Last week was week 1 of VLM training. I did a 2 mile run on Saturday on the snow at the local country park. Was amazing running - nice on the knees. Missed Sundays planned due to family commtiment. Earlier in the week I had my first swimming coaching session - 1hr of introductory stuff to look at the stroke and breathing. Hard work, but worth every minute.

    This week so far:

    Monday: Rest

Tuesday: Ran just under 4 miles on the pavement - surface was fine and finished under the time in the training plan - I'm following the Evil Pixie's Runners World plan from runners world. She is part of the Lucazade 6 and is aiming for sub 5 too.

Wednesday - 1hr swimming session covering 1500m in the pool. Tired, but happy and suffering from a major wind attack as a result.

The rest of the week is shaping up like this:

Thursday: Marathon training run: 1M jog, then 2 x 1.5M (or 15 mins) fast, with 800m (5:30-min) jog recoveries, then 1M jog. Which totals 6.5 miles. Not sure how I'm going to react to the fast section in the middle and might need some pushing to get that done especailly if weather is bad.

    Friday: Swim session

Saturday: Rest or 3M (approx 39 mins) easy

    Sunday: 7m (90mins)

I knew I was going to be tired and to be honest, it hasn't really hit home that this is just a starting point and it will get worse. I was in bed by 11.15 last night which for me is early. I fear that will be moving closer to 10.30 in coming days.

Generally I am happy and pleased so far. But need more focus on my food. I think this weekend will see a batch cook of things for the freezer to ease the pressure on cooking every night.

Hopefully the running and swimming planned will all come to pass. Now, must away and do some work - need to save for a Triathlon Road bike and wet suite.

Take care - and be careful on those pavements. Happy running.
