2 months to go

Feb1920104:25 p.m.

The end of another working week and the weekend ahead. If only it were a time to rest and relax, but with just 2 months till the big day the training must, I fear, continue.

Last Sunday saw me running 10 miles of a planned 12 with club mates from Havering Joggers. I was glad for the company to keep me going. I felt the run went well, but the rest of the day was a wipe out and the next day my legs were sore - I felt like I was a beginner again.

I took an extra rest day on Tuesday and was in the pool on Wednesday for 1600m of drills and blackpools (4 crawl, 3 back, 2 breat and 1 fly) in various combinations. I was pretty tired by the end but happy.

Returning to the road on Thursday I headed out alone from the club to a nearby hill (1.5 miles from base) and came across another Havering Jogger running hill repeats) I had planned to go there and do them, so started powering up the hill - nearly breaking just before the top. I ran only 3 but it felt like I'd gone 10 miles in that session. The return jog was hard work.

Today I swam again. 1000m in 45mins - warm up and cooldown and 4 x blackpools as the main work. Felt good - a twinge in the left (troublesome) foot.

This weekend I have 14 miles planned for Saturday and a trip into London with the family on Sunday for the Chinesse New Year Celebrations.

I must also get my fund raising page updated and a picture added.

I have an idea for my marathon run and I hope it can be organised. I run a real ale mail order company (www.alesbymail.com) and I'm hoping to get some of the breweries I work with, who stock beer at the pubs along the route to sponsor a silly hat. I will change hats at each of the pubs and run the course in a number of different hats.

I'm also going to start a "silly hat of the week" feature for my training - and wear a suitably silly hat on each Sunday / Saturday long run.

So, if you have a hat you can donate or are a company willing to sponsor a hat - and you want to see it on a fat bloke running the marathon, get in touch!

That's all for now. This has been the best week so far for training and I'm beginning to grow into daily exercise at an endurance level.

Happy running.
