Race Preparation
May03200710:34 p.m.
Back on the track again doing a session designed for the 800m runners in the group - 600m hard, 200m jog and 200m sprint then 5-6 minutes recovery and then repeat the set. I wasn't timing myself just running hard. First set felt good and the sprint was quick (for me!), the second set felt hard but I finished it feeling good.
This was tough but good preparation for the shorter races I'm planning. Now I've got a 8-10 miler at weekend and then a 4 mile trail race on Wednesday and a 5k road race the week after.
I've got a day off tomorrow to make the bank holiday weekend even longer and I hope you've all got a great weekend planned - we all deserve it after the hard work over the last few months!

garyb 'Just caught up with your blog Pete! Impressive CV ;-)....Its interesting reading about all the marathons you have done, and it gives me inspiration for myself, i have done quite a few now, but am suffering a lot with my knees the last 2 years (and i am only 34), but its good (well not good at the time) to see you had injurys and are fighting back with still quality times now. Maybe my body just does need a long rest and then maybe too i will bounce back! Reading your is an inspiration though, so i will keep posted with your blog to see how you go! Belated congrats for FLM, it was hot watching Let alone running, so you have my respect!' added 4th May 2007

Pete 'With all that info you sent me I feel like I've got my own personal coach!! - thanks Pete, I'm going to give it a try when I've got my head together and can get a plan in place. One thing that concerns me is that I'm a lousy judge of pace, even with the SDM, so trying to run laps in specific times will be a bit of a lottery I think!! Sir Nick suggested something along the lines of running 400m fast followed by 200m slow, etc, and count the laps covered in say 20 mins - maybe do one of those sessions each month so you can measure the improvement? - any thoughts?' added 4th May 2007
