Taking chances

I love an underdog story! I have the Rocky boxset and have watched it countless times. I don't have a favourite, although I do have a soft spot for the first film. I just love the whole story. As I'm writing this I've just heard they are doing a musical for Rocky - this is very good news!
Who remembers Rocky IV when Rocky travels to the Soviet Union to fight against Ivan Drago? The training montage of him running through the snow, lifting up horse carts and chopping wood with an axe never fails to motivate me to train!

One of my guilty pleasures is Wycombe Wanderers, who I've supported from a young age. On Thursday evening I went to a dinner at their stadium, and it was in recognition for their run in the FA Cup 10 years ago. They played Liverpool in the semi-final, as a division 2 team, when Liverpool were one of the best sides in Europe. Wycombe lost 2-1 but they didn't embarrass themselves!
I'm not sure who remembers their run, but they were underdogs in each round. In the quarter finals they were drawn against Leicester, but had no first choice strikers (all four were injured). They were desperate for anyone to play and put an advertisement on Ceefax! An agent for a player called Roy Essandoh saw the advert and they contacted the club. Wycombe brought him on as a substitute and he scored in final moments of the game, Wycombe won 2-1.
This makes me think of two things; Taking a chance when it presented to you (think Eminem 8Mile), and how quickly 10 years has gone!

What have you done in the past 10 years? Have you reached any goals you have set? Do you have any regrets of things you have wanted to do but haven't? If this is the case then ask yourself 'Why'? Were they unrealistic and out of reach, or did you stay in your comfort zone and not go the extra distance to reach them? Was it ever because someone said you couldn't do it?

It's nearly 2012 and it's always a good time to have resolutions and to make a change. What I would suggest is to start thinking now about something and start making a plan. Instead of just talking about it, a good way of committing to something is to start a blog. Use realbuzz as a tool and start a blog to track your progress of whatever it is you want to achieve.
You don't want to look back in another 10 years wishing you would have done something you really could have!
Have a great week; I'm off to get a Christmas tree!
