IF IT 'AINT BROKE?

Physio day today and I was beginning to regret turning up at Trauma Clinic only 20 minutes early for my 8.10am appointment. I had visions of still being stuck in the waiting room at 11am which would have been a very bad thing on account of me having work to do. Hospitals tend not to cater for this fact.
As it happened, I was seen 30 minutes after the scheduled time so not too bad. However, when I got into the largest cubicle in the world the person who came to see me asked me what I was there for! Naturally, I informed him I'd fallen in the New York Marathon and last Monday A&E had done an X-ray and informed me that I'd broken the Radial Bone in my left arm. To which he announced, it wasn't broken at all and also that it wasn't a mess. Go figure!
Now he did show me my X-ray (at least I think it was my X-ray) and to the unqualified observer there didn't seem to be much wrong at all...unless you count the loose bone which he suddenly announced was lurking in the shadows and which they could deal with with an arthroscope should it be of any bother. Err, no thanks. Do they really think I'm entrusting the arm I have definitely broken twice to a hospital which can't agree from one week to the next whether I've actually fractured anything at all? They would probably mistake my arm for my head. Come to think of it, is that what happened in 2003 when they went down the neurosurgery route?!
So, he discharged me saying it was a soft tissue injury.
It's still not right so probably the best thing to do is just treat the arm as if some damage had been done seeing as I no longer know who is right.
Managed to make my appointment and good job too - I interviewed the Secret Millionaire Kevin Green who, as great supporter of the Make A Wish Foundation, was taking the opportunity to meet with a Barry family who have benefited from their work. And what a lovely bloke he was. Absolutely fantastic. And just letting our brave six-year-old Spiderman fan sit in his Aston Martin made another dream come true.
Turns out Kevin will be doing the VLM 10 himself, but not for Make A Wish as they don't have that many gold bond places.
...which kind of reminded me, once more, I've got to try and think of something else to do in 2010.

Keith_L 'How weird is that? Makes you wonder doesnt it - as they could have plastered you up last week and you would have been none the wise for 5-6 weeks? Not the nHSs finest hour Dont give up on the marathon yet ' added 17th Nov 2009
