    FEELING SORE BUT FEELING GOOD

Right, after having doing much thinking the last few weeks about defering as I was really struggling with the injury. No LSR was taking me past the 11/12 mile marker as either my mental block or injury wouldnt let me. Also after having some really bad runs in the week (where i can normally do between 6 and 8 miles) I was lucky if I could get a mile without having to walk.

The breakthrough came yesterday afternoon when I plugged myself in to my ipod taped up my hamstring with some zinc oxide strapping, and of I went. Finding my pace early on helped and after seeing and being heckled at by one of our club coaches ( he has in the past managed  50 milers in under 5 hrs) at the end of 7 miles was about to call it a day but for some reason when I got back to my house I filled my drinks bottle up, had another gel and swapped ipods (mine had died ) out I went again. Managing to keep a steady pace going I completed just under 16 miles in 2hrs 55 mins. Today I am feeling very pleased with myself. Even though I feel just a tad sore and stiff at the knees. It gives me hope that I will be able to complete the marathon, even with the problems that I have had. Heres to next sundays run, hoping that I can get a 3hrs 30 or even a 4hr in..... fingers crossed for me.

    painfull but worth it!

right its has been a long time since i last posted... but i havent been running for a few weeks as my hamstring decided that it would make its presence felt and boy it has ben rather annoying for a couple of weeks. have been doing fine with the training plan but have had to miss 2x16 milers because of my injury. i can do 13 miles , so having to do a LSR on the days that it reckons to do under 10... by my reckoning i can do a 16/17/18 before tapering.... i might be able to hit a 20 in also if i am lucky...

been to see my sports therapist on monday morning and she reckons that my muscle was very tight and i did the right thing by not running and giving it a rest. the old injury is ok no new scar tissue was found so thats a plus!!!!!! all i needed was some very deep tissue massage.... ouch!!!!!!!!! but it was worth it as i managed to do an 8 miler last night with no problems. so fingers crossed guys and gals that i will be there on the strat line... even if i have to do a run walk stratergy... i will be there!

    KEEPING ON RUNNING

Hmmmm, so i havent posted in a while, sorry!

have been managing to keep up with my training plan, so been averaging about 25+ miles a week .

have had 1.5 weeks off (approx) as we had a holiday to go see my sister in law get married, but as we were driving down to bournemouth we were involved in a car crash! and a 7.5 ton truck smashed into the front of our car on my side!!!!! it was our fault as we didnt know the town and didnt see the junction ( building work obsquring the traffic lights) ... the kids and both my husband and myself are ok .. bit shook up but thankfully no one was hurt. so i have had a week off to just get my consentration back. managed a 9 miler (ish) yesterday in 1hr50 mins. not bad considering what i have been through and the weather as on saturday we had another inch or two of snow! today is a rest day so intending to rest once the kids go to school. right best crack on!

    WET, COLD, SOGGY RUNNER

right well, after a few weeks of just about managing to get out for a run, i bit the bullet and said sod it!!!! i went out for a run.

in very wet slushy conditions i managed a 7.5 miler in 1hr 22mins... my toes were nimb with cold but i plodded on .

i have said to my husband that from now on i'm gonna be very selfish and go out running at any oppertunity. the only days that i will have off are a monday after my long run, and a friday aftre 3 days off training. whether i get out at night with the girls at club, or just manage to get out on my own... thats it. running is now a part of my life for the next 16 weeks or so that i have to indulge....

so back to today... apart from getting in the house, cold  and wet ( as it started raining as i was half way round) my trainers are now in the airing cupboard drying out.... but thankfully it has not snowed since friday....  so training can commence...

A RATHER WET, ICY, SLIPPERY 10

well after 2 weeks of no running here due to the weather a few of us braved a sunday morning run, and we hit the streets...... for most of the first 5 miles we were able to either run on the path or when the path was too icy, we ran on the road.... providing there were no cars and the road wasnt too icy either!

the first loop of the town took us just over the hour, and by then two of my fellow runners decided that it was time to call it a morning ( one as she normally only does 5 miles anyway and the other as she normally only does about 4 miles so she was very pleased that she had managed to do 5!).

the two silly souls left ( my friends husband who is running edingburgh marathon and myself doing london) decided to carry on and do another 5 ..... ( not much of a problem for my friends husband as his PB is aboout the 3hr mark and he travels overseas to do marathons) but myself on the other hand..... well.................

seeing as i havent run that far since the great north run 2008, as of my injury. it was a very testing time.... i know that i can do 8 miles comfy at my pace, so with pete a little way ahead of me showing me the way .... we plodded on... and it was a plod for pete.. (he stayed with me all the way round)...bless him. when we had done 2 miles we turned of the main road to get back into town, thats where the fun began.

as we live in the country, the small back roads havent been gritted and as we found out very very slippery!!!! as i injured my self running a cross country fun run, i vowed never to run cross country again, but due to the state of the roads we had to! running on the grass verge with a dike that is no more than 2 foot away from the road edge... doesnt give you a lot of room if you hit a patch of ice...

i would say that after about 1/2 a mile i got into a nice stride and plodded on, walking only when we had to cross the frozen road or driveway, then we ended up running along the side of some fields....

lets just say my nice clean trainers which i have had for a few months are now well and truly muddied... mud up the back of my legs .. added to the look. (nice!)

so we managed a 5 miler in 56 mins... slow even by my standards but conditions meant it wasnt too bad. so a 10 mile training run in the ice ended in a time of roughly 2 hrs. not bad, not good either 15 mins off my 10 mile pb, but at least i got out and reached my 10 mile target  just 3 days after christmas.. only another 16 to go!!!!!!!!!!
