... on a golden opportunity to enjoy some golden, glorious winter sunshine Smile.

Day shifts this week and next, and its a nice early finish on a Friday, 1pm. A fact my wife had forgotten about when she made arrangements for Oliver's Nain to pick him up from school. I did of course say I can collect him if she preferred, and if that was the case I'd have had a nice run on the mountain before picking him up.

As it happened, Nain was perfectly happy with the arrangements as they were, so it was on with my tights and out on the bike. That sunshine was deceptive, once in motion it was nowhere near as warm as it had felt in the garden, where a t-shirt had been plenty warm enough.

Thought I'd do a hilly route, so it was up over Minera Mountain, down through World's End and cut across to climb the old road up to the top of the Horseshoe Pass and home again over Llandegla Moor. A round trip of 25 miles, under 2 hours, averaging 13.2 mph.

Very happy with that Smile.

It might not sound very quick to the cyclists on here, but when you consider the volume of climbing, and I mean steep climbing, 1st gear grinding 3 or 4 mph climbing, its a decent ride.

  • jimbuzz 'Good ride mate! I cycled the latter part of the Jodrell sportive from prestbury to Whaley Bridge yesterday. Like you i was pounding the tarmac stuck in first gear for the majority of the ride! The views were fantastic tho, well worth the sore thighs/ankles. Overall 30miles/2h15/AV13.1Mph. Tired this morning! ' added 16th Jan 2012
