Easy Come Easy Go????? If Only!!!!

Oct12201010 a.m.

6 months ago I ran the marathon, 26.2 miles, OK not in the time I wanted (is it ever??) but 4.30 odd wasn't bad. How quick the ability to do that has waned. Since then I've irregularly trained, a stint of weights for a couple of weeks 5 times a week, football once a week since September, I ran home from work once, or tried, just out of the blue and made it 7 miles, but its all been with no goal, nothing to achieve, and thus its been random, and more often than not I've shirked. I've also been drinking regularly, more often than I'd like. Hangovers have been fairly common, almost once a week I suppose, and most days I have a drink, which hasn't been helping. So last night I did 3 miles, my starting run whenever I kick training off again, normally as the winter closes in like now, in preparation for the marathon, which I am NOT doing next year. It was that old familiar feeling where 3 miles felt hard, I was breathless early, could feel my legs after a mile and a half I suppose, and the pace was pretty poor, stuck at 9.5 mins per mile.

I do need a goal, definitely!! I'm going to sign up for the London Triathlon next year, but it isn't until July 2011 which is way off. 1500m swim, 40km bike ride, and 10km run. I should find each individual discipline fairly comfortable I think, but I can imagine it being murder one after the other, particularly with the swim being first. The legs will be like Jelly. I have tried to find a local Triathlon club, but tri-larks seemed to be the nearest, and I e-mailed them and I'm not sure they are going anymore as I didn't get an answer and the website is years out of date!

What I can't seem to motuivate myself to do is actually go to the gym. I like being outside. Which seems a bit of a waste of my gym membership. I haven't been for at least a month. I think walking the dog has made me prefer to be outside. I also got caught up doing weights, which aren;t me although I like the figure that comes with them if you can keep it up.

Anyway, I'm going to hit my regime hard in the run up to Xmas. I seem to be getting stressed more and more lately at work, and only exercise gets rid of that feeling....I love being physically fit (even if I don't look it), but its going to be difficult getting back up there to a good standard. Here goes!!!!
