What a few weeks, sore calves, ruling the race out in my head, only to secretly hold a hope in my heart that I'd make it. But I've not been able to train, apart from 2miles here, 3 miles there....running machine, on the soft grass, 3 days rest in between sessions. Oh my days!!! But I still have hope. I ran a slow slow slow half marathon tonight, 13 miles in 2.5 hrs....downhill I run like an idiot, landing on my heels to cushion the impact on my calves, and I felt like I was running like a bicycle with the back wheel severely buckled and rubbing against the brakes, but here's the thing.......STILL running!!! I'm sore now. I've not got the miles in my legs, I've lost the definition in my quads that were driving me faster over distance....and I've put on 6 pounds or so in the 5 weeks I've been unable to put in the heavy training planned.......but if I feel OK tomorrow, if I can get another long run (15miles maybe) in at the weekend......then an 18 mile the following weekend, I know its far from ideal, I know its not enough, and I know its a risk, but barring further injury, I know I'm going to get up on sunday 25th April, get on a train, go to London, and START the Marathon....don't know if I'll finish, if I do I'll be a wreck, but lets give it a go eh.....I'm sure their are others with similarly ruined preparations, others who'll be lagging slowly towards the rear of the field, so come on the crowds, come on the support, get that water ready you fab volunteers, lets have it!!!!!
