I really should have stayed in my basket when Jane’s friend suggested on Monday evening that they run the 5 mile torture route.  I should have taken Jane’s runners to that basket with me too!

But no – was a lovely sunny evening and the offer of running the country lanes and a couple of off roads trails was much too tempting. Now usually when they run together I try to flatten down my ears because they chat, chat, chat as they jog along, which drives me mad. It also gives much too much warning to the rabbits basking in the sunshine that we are approaching, spoiling all my fun. However, with Claire’s half marathon and Jane’s marathon on the horizon they obviously mean business, as they set off at a great pace with almost no chatter.

So what’s the problem I hear you ask? Well 2 miles in we were still running downhill, down and down and it dawned on me that sooner or later we would have to run back up again. Low and behold, suddenly there we were right at the bottom of a very big hill. Even on 4 legs it was tough! Then just when I thought we were safe we had a quick down hill section again before confronting the biggest steepest hill I have ever seen. Was so glad that Jane had to stop and walk, as there was no way I was going to get up that hill in one either – even if a whole flock of ducks were sleeping on the road at the top!

I have obviously trained Jane too well this winter- going back to my basket for a rest.
