I hear 2010 is looking like a vintage year...

I'm not dead, I've just been wallowing in the slough of despond.  Sadly, the miracle didn't happen, the Gods were out of stock.

My attempt at an orthotic-boosted come-back run wasn't exactly the dream return to form I envisaged.  Leg hurt immediately and continued to hurt through the full 30 mins.  Since then, my trainers have been banished from sight and I've spent the entire time in the pool or pedalling.  I decided the only chance was to rest as long a possible.  So tonight was first test-run, prior to an attempt at a long run on Saturday, assuming my leg didn't fall off.

And, well, it didn't hurt immediately.  How weird.  Run/walked for half a mile, then ran 3 miles straight off.  As I warmed up, I started to feel kind of like my old self, if a creaky, rusted version that had been left down the bottom of the garden in the rain.  By the third mile things regressed and everthing was feeling a bit weird and out of alignment.

But the leg didn't fall off or implode. But I also can't see myself running 26.2 miles on it in 10 days time.

Ho hum.  I'll take it for another spin on Sat and see what happens.  Although I've already drafted my 'sorry, sponsors' email.

  • JSIMMONDS 'Ruth, I am truly gutted for you. I have everything crossed that Sunday shows a miracle recovery. I can only imagine the despondency you must be going through after all your hard work! If the worst comes to the worst, could you run another marathon later in the year instead? (I hear Abingdon is pretty good). I know it's not the same though. Jon' added 17th Apr 2009

  • Fish1980 'Having just got back from my physio visit very upbeat unfortunately I just read your post and I am now worried again! I am gutted for you as I have been going through exactly the same over the past few weeks and I could still miss out this year, as I haven't managed anything for 4 weeks now and still can't. I hope your recovery goes well and be positive and proud that you have got this far. ' added 17th Apr 2009

Fingers, toes and everything else that can be crossed (?) that tomorrow goes OK for you. Don't give up yet, but do keep us posted won't you....' added 17th Apr 2009
