So, in 2007 I ran my first FLM.  By mid-March I was thoroughly sick of training; courting public derision in lycra and&n...

Wanted: One Miracle. GSOH + NS preferred.

Apr03200910:35 a.m.

My optimism was short lived.

Attempt at a come-back run on Monday was going OK - managed a mile warm up, then 100m strides / 100m walk.  But on my jog warm down my whole calf muscle suddenly locked up with no warning, bringing me screeching to a hault.  And the pain in my shin came straight back.

I swam Tuesday as planned, but had to sack the supposed second run on Wednesday as it was still too sore.  So I swam instead.  Very bored of swimming.

Saw my physio last night, who seemed surprised at the setback.  I wailed "I really can't see myself doing it".  His usual impeccable sang froid dropped momentarily; "Erm, well, erm, we really need to see improvement in the next couple of runs.  Well, really in the next run".  Then his composure returned, "Keep thinking positive!".

Sorry, I'm all out of positive.  But have bucketloads of despair / gloom / doom / willingness to discover God, Allah, Buddha, Scientology.  Well, maybe not Scientology.

So I'm swimming again tonight (Hurray! Goody goody! Can't wait!).  Then seeing physio again tomorrow to attempt a D-Day run on the treadmill and around the grounds of the health club.  Frankly, I really can't see it happening anymore.

I would rest it for a little longer from running, even if its a week , x-train & if things go well you will still have the fitness to get you around I'm sure.' added 3rd Apr 2009

I am in denial myself about the state of my injury (getting treatment but not wanting to think about how it is growing worse as we get closer to the day) so I can certainly relate to how you are feeling. Holy cow though - you're not holding back on 'alternative' forms of exercise. You'll be triathlon fit at this rate! Fingers, toes and calf muscles crossed for you this week....' added 4th Apr 2009
