Time to look at the positives.

Apr27201011:20 a.m.

Yes, I was down after Sunday. I had the feeling that I had let myself and others down, felt a bit of a failure with my time - but then came all the lovely comments from my marathon comrades and my attitude is changing.

The comments on my last post have really helped and I am now focussed on what I actually did.

I completed the London Marathon - which thousands never get to do and millions don't want to do.

I won a medal which my son proudly took into school yesterday

I raised over £1000 for charity

And , my legs still hurt (which is a positive - no pain = no gain and I must have gained something)

I have put the lighter fuel away and will not be setting fire to my running gear. I will sneak a little ballot application in on 4th May (don't tell the wife) and I will be out running again soon. I have already enterred a Half Marathon in October and may do the Mersey Tunnel 10k in May. There is unfinished business between me and marathons, especially London. I will keep applying until I get in again, definately want to do it again before I reach 50 (6 years then)

There is a great hope the Mersey Marathon will return next year after many years of absence. Liverpool Council have put it out to tender so hopefully this will go ahead. The Run Liverpool initiative have been trying for this for a few years but the council always blocked it,  before I started running I think they had a link with the London Marathon Company. Could be one to look out for next year.

Thanks everyone for all their support over the last few months, and especially over the last few days. I will be taling my medal into work tomorrow to show it off with pride.

  • Firefly123 'Great to hear you sounding so positive, Stu. Do keep posting on your blog from time to time as I'd love to know how you're doing with the running. But for now, bask in the glory of what you achieved 2 days ago - and get rid of the aches (I certainly wish mine would go away!)' added 27th Apr 2010

  • simonedumergue 'Yay - that's the attitude! I said it was a one off last year and then promptly entered the ballot and did it again this year. I think my husband might threaten divorce if I go for a third on the trot :-) I hope Lego Man was still intact by the end. My kids took my medal into school yesterday to show in assembly. It's great to be such a good role model like that when you think about it. Glad you won't be incinerating your running gear and jolly good to hear you have new races lined up already - way to go Stu!!' added 27th Apr 2010

  • nickeames 'Well done mate!!! It does sound as though you had a very similar run to me and have exactly the same thoughts(along with a v similar finishing time!)I was also gutted but have also picked myself up and will also be applying again- even though I said I never would- but I have something to prove.' added 28th Apr 2010

  • Russell_Nimbus 'Well done Stu. I like your attitude. You should be very proud of yourself! Don't beat yourself up about it. It was humid and congested and it definitely depends on how you feel on the day.' added 29th Apr 2010
