A year to go and counting....

Jul2820117:04 p.m.

Life seems to pass more and more quickly; this time next year we’ll be off and running (or at least swimming) at the London Games. With that in mind, I was at the Aquatics Centre for the one year to go event. As far as I could see, the Centre was totally ready to go; all it needs are audiences and swimmers. What a building! Truly inspiring, with lovely flowing lines, like the ocean. A perfect venue to do some publicity for 2012. Also a good place to catch up with old mates Seb Coe, Crammy, Denise Lewis and fellow realbuzz.com blogger Mark Foster. We had a good old chinwag in between interviews for radio and telly.

On Sunday I did the London to Cambridge Bike Ride with the John Lewis guys. I felt inspired. Having watched the Tour de France most evenings over the last couple of weeks, I did it in about 4 hours. I zoomed up the hills, bum in the air, imagining myself winning a stage on top of an Alp..... Jon kindly pointed out that it’s pretty flat between London and Cambridge, so I feel a bit silly now! John Lewis also had me running around the car park in Bluewater the other day. Not because I lost my vehicle, I should add! I was there to take part in one of their Healthy Living Challenge events. I hung out with loads of staff in fancy dress, then we did a running relay. I hope nobody had a clock on me, because timings would have been out of the window; I spent most of the race laughing and I can’t run when I laugh! Lovely people and a great day out promoting fitness and wellbeing at work.

A couple of days before I was running around in a wood – Cannock Chase, to be precise - as part of my work with McCain. They organize lots of events around the country that encourage people to get involved and get fit. A good crowd turned up to take part and I met some great characters, who certainly know how to have a good time. It’s the Great Ormond Street Ball at Goodwood later on and I’m looking forward to it very much. I’ve worked out which heels I’m wearing, but not the dress; Jon’s getting a bit worried, because we’re supposed to be leaving soon! Later this week I’ll be at Goodwood Races Ladies’ Day.

I hope the weather holds, otherwise there could be another outfit crisis; at least I can send Jon home from there if I need a tactical kit change! And just in case you think it’s all getting a bit lah-de-dah, I’m off with the family this weekend for a spot of camping. It’s our annual jaunt with friends where we drink warm wine out of plastic glasses and the kids run wild. I can’t wait. It’s good, old fashioned fun and I expect to be home on Sunday evening with a car full of mud and clothes that smell of wood fires. I’ll let you know how it went next week!
