Wow - what an amazing day and what an amazing marathon!

My race report itself is going to be fairly compact!!! I completed the Virgin London Marathon my arms high in the air and a smile on my face, about 2 seconds later I was sobbing happy tears, which I did again when I got my medal and then again when I spoke to my kids & again when I saw my husband. It is a hugely emotional event.

For most of the marathon I had a smile on my face - people calling my name and cheering you on is the most amazing feeling. Physically its hard - there is no other way to put it but now (6 days on) I am feeling reasonably normal the only exception being my 2 bruised toenails from when I tripped on the 35km timing mats!!

I think the highlight of my race was seeing my husband at about 8 3/4 miles - I was overcome with happy emotions, in fact i had to calm myself down as my breathing got completely out of control after seeing him - knowing that the only reason he was there was to support me.

I saw 2 friends along the route as well as my husband and fortunately (I think) my mom & dad saw me but I didn't see them - I might have exploded with emotions if I had of done.

The journey to the marathon has taught me alot about myself, more so this time than on my previous marathons.

This week I have been through massive highs and then some periods of lowness (for want of a better description) and I have learnt even more about myself this week after the marathon.

The greatest acheivement for me was to know and really feel that the people that matter to me are proud of me - and not just for running the marathon - and to finally feel proud of myself too.

My kids stood up in front their whole school this morning when I was given a "Star of the Week" certificate at praise assembly and told them all that they were proud of me - & that is priceless!

So yes, it is all about feeling proud. I would also add that having parents, a husband, and kids who are all proud, is a family to be very proud of anyway! Well done, I hope you keep blogging with future endeavours, but if not, thanks for sharing your experiences! You have had an amazing rollercoaster and you are proof that such dedication to the cause can bring out so many different emotions along the way, so thanks again.' added 4th May 2010
