Kilomathon

Mar1520102:59 p.m.

(a quick & short resume - will post again when I can get my brain to work)

points of interest before, during and after.

No matter the time of day I will always get the drunk/odd ball sitting behind/beside me on a long distance public transport trip (see FB).  Its Law.

I have the unenviable ability to set off all airport & shop alarms.  I don't even need to go into the shop, just walking past them is enough for the buzzers to go off.

I always get frisked by the female security guards, never the male ones.

9 hours is a very long time to have only travelled 300 miles from Skye to Livingston on bus & train.

I did need my passport klebe (!)

Tina's new car is very smart...

Almost getting run over right outside the hotel the night before is not good race preparation.

Nottingham - Derby is practically as windy as Skye.

Mixing your gels is almost as bad as mixing your drinks.  A definite no.

And 3 gels is one gel too many...

16.23 miles is a very long way to run.  Especially into a headwind.

The physio is going to murder me.

I think I prefer running hills than a on flat course.

The contents of a full dropped gel sachet can go some distance when a runner treads on it.

I finished just 57 seconds off my 2.50 target.  But if we take off the toilet/gel stop the time comes down to just over 2hr 48 Wink.

The medal is fab Smile

The cost of a taxi from Edinburgh Airport to Edinburgh city centre is just fractionally less than the combined total of the bus trip from Skye to Inverness/train from Inverness to Edinburgh/bus back up from Edinburgh to Inverness & the bus back to Skye...

My quads hurt terribly today.

Think I'm going to put my name down for the Dublin Kilomathon...

  • michael_h 'Crikey! Getting to/from the race sounded almost as much of a challenge as the race itself! You might just have thought up a whole new sport in gel spurting... Well done on completing the run in a good time and glad you "enjoyed" it enough to do another one!' added 15th Mar 2010

  • Way_Too_Slow 'Nice little report! Hope your quads stop aching soon. 16.2 miles IS a long way, but think of us poor (mad) soles who are going to run another 10 on top of that!! Pure madness!! Great time by the way!' added 15th Mar 2010

  • Hola 'Great highlights! Well done. Think how much you'd enjoy a marathon. Good luck with the physio. Did WTS mean soles or souls? I guess they both fit the context! Well done again. ' added 16th Mar 2010

  • emmteeyess 'Excellent report! (love the punchy format, but the last line says it all!!). Or you could organise a race along the lines of 'get there any way you can' and not bother doing the actual run. A guy in our club actualy DID get run over the night before London - by a pizza delivery scooter - broke his ankle. Let that be a warning to you. Cheers MTS' added 16th Mar 2010
