Oh Cr*p
Mar0220102 p.m.
Not been a good week at all.
I did my last LSR a week ago, and it was slow - probably the slowest Half I've done in a year or so. Tired legs, stinking cold and general apathy didn't make for a brilliant run, but I did it. Knees were a bit achy, but nothing like the previous run so I was happy enough to log it and start my taper. Had to go back out in the afternoon, it was a nice day so I decided to walk. Got about 20mtrs from the house and suddenly I thought somebody had shot me in the side of my knee. It was agony - I couldn't walk, I couldn't even put any pressure on it so I limped home (not an easy thing to do beside a 35kg dog who was on a promise of a long walk and kept wanting to turn round and head for the woods). My knee was still as sore a couple of hours later so a quick pleading call to the physio saw me get an appointment for Saturday, so from Tuesday until then I didn't do a thing except RICE my leg in the hope it might help. Tapering big style...
By the time Saturday came things were a little better, however 3 days of inactivity had caused my back to seize so it was a bit of a shambling wreck that appeared at the physio. I don't know if you'll remember the B.S.W (Jan '08 posts) - the Big Scary Wummin is a private physio who basically scared the living daylights out of me the first time I went, but she knows her stuff, and she took one look at me when I turned up and said "Do you need some work doing on your back as well now?". The offer was gratefully accepted, before moving on to the more painful issue - my ITBand(s). I knew that was the problem, though I hoped it might just have been the one. Unfortunately not. Having both ITbands stripped must be the most painful thing a person can legally do to somebody else. You might just have heard me scream... I'm not ashamed to admit I was in tears..! She knows I have the kilomathon in a week or so and her final words, in a rather resigned tone, before I left were "Just make another appointment to see me before you race please".
So, she didn't say I couldn't run
What rubbish timing though, realistically I know under 3 weeks is not enough time to recover from an ITB injury, but I've done no running & very little walking since, so if I keep on with that (and icing & stretching) it should be enough to get me through the race. Just as well I wasn't going for a 'fast time' then I suppose...
And thats been my week. I hope everyone elses training is going well - London is fast approaching now too, and the weather has picked up where you are as well
Take care...

Hola 'Yikes - having your IT bands stripped? I've no idea what that means but it sounds terrible! I've said before that if I could study again I'd choose to be a physio but I'm not sure how good I'd be at reducing someone to tears. Take care Skye. Thinking of you and hoping for the very best.
