Target Practise I entered the London Marathon for 2009 and got accepted. I was pretty pleased with that, almost like the hard work had been done. Then...

Let me start by wishing everyone in The Land Of Blogg a very Happy New Year. I hope y'all had a great Christmas and Santa was good to you. Funnily enough, I got a load of running gear! Shows you how life changes when you're running a Marathon! Don't normally get the usual stereotypical socks for Christmas but this I got two pairs of running socks, and I was quite excited about it! Sad I know. Also got a nice bright almost luminous orange running top which I'm sure causes its own light pollution when I run!

OK, I know, I haven't blogged for about two months now. I'm sorry, yes it's detention for me. Rest assured though that I haven't given up this running lark. I'm running more regularly than I was the last time I posted, at least three times a week, even in these artic conditions! I'm not running to a definte training plan as yet and I think I'm a bit behind in my milage at the moment. But when I look back to how I was three months ago when running for a minute seems a challenge to now when a seven mile run doesn't seem daunting anymore then I'm made progress.

My faffing time before a run has also come down considerably! I now have an IPod and one of those cool Nike sensors which monitors how far and how fast you've run, and Lance Armstrong talks to you personally if you've done really well! I had the ordinary headphones which I had to tape to my ears with micropore tape before each run so they didn't fall out (stylish I know) so by the time I'd strapped on the IPod, set up the sensor, taped my ears together, it would take me ten minutes to get out the door. I now have proper sports headphones and get out the door in just a few minutes. I feel like a proper runner!

I have entered a couple of races as well. I've got a 10K race at the beginning of February, and a half marathon in March. Should be good indicators of how I'm doing. I'm not bothered about how fast I run them, but how I feel running them, and whether I can get round them at all!

I am beginning to suffer a bit with aches and pains this week. Had to shorten a seven mile run last weekend due to a pain in the knee (which luckily has gone) and a three miler yesterday has left my calfs quite stiff. Mainlining Voltarol this week. Probably going to take it easy this weekend to make sure my legs don't suddenly fall off. Like I said though, I need to pick up my milage so I can't afford to take it easy for too long. Still, I guess you need your legs to run with so better look after them.

Despite my calfs had a good run last night. Tried a new route. There's a long road between where I live and the next major town and I'm going to try to run along increasing lenghts of it building up to my 20 mile long run around March time. Last night it was really dark but running under the stars with just the moonlight and my orange running top lighting my way. Way cool. I know, I'm an old romantic fool!

I promise to blogg more often. I hope everyone's training is going to whatever plan you're following, even if its Plan 9 From Outer Space.
