I Won a Race

Sep0920095:54 p.m.

Warning this could be a long blog as its in reverse chronological order

Wednesday – (Today) – Bridges race. The good news is I set off last and finished 1st which is something you rarely hear of for a handicap race. I went out hard and got to the 1 mile mark (after dodging tourists and going up a flight of stairs) in 5:23. After about 9 minutes I had already caught people so knew I was on for a good time. In the last 60 seconds I must have overtaken about 15 people and finished in 12:27, for 2.34 miles. This was 40 seconds better than last month and my second best time ever. I even won the trophy (after more than 10 attempts) which I will post a picture later.

Tuesday – This should have been renamed how to run 4 times in a day! Not exactly the best preparation for a race but I had to have some injections so knew I couldn’t cycle and take the tube home. So I ran to the train station, from train station to work, my normal lunchtime session of 9x2 mins and then a run from train station to home. So 3 x 2.5 miles and a poor lunchtime session. Not surprisingly after 15 miles my legs were a little tired

Monday – 6x1k with 40 seconds rest around Green Park. This was with Orlando and Paul. The plan being to run about 3:30’s (last month we were at 3:36’s) but we seemed to blast around these averaging 3:27. A surprisingly good session.

The weekend consisted of no running but swimming for the kids and helping son number 1 with some of his homework. I.e transferring some pictures so he could print them for a book cover . The big news though was that son number 2 finally started cycling without his stabilisers. He (son 2) has always been a bit cautious but I knew he could do it. We went down to the local park and after a couple of pushes he was off!

Friday – 4x2miles with Orlando. This is mean’t to be at half marathon pace (5:50’s for me) with 2 minutes recovery. With the wind whipping up from the Serpentine in the 1st mile it was quite difficult for me (although easy for Orlando as his half pace is 5:20’s) and on the 4th rep I really struggled just averaging 6:05 for that rep.
